I bought some fresh sardines today, and they're currently in the freezer. Is there any minimum period for sardines to be frozen for before I can feed them to the dogs? Can they be fed frozen or am I better off defrosting them first? I have just been reading some raw feeding guidelines given on the Cane Corso club website, and it says to never defrost chicken on a bone because it could lead to the bone splintering. Is this the general rule or is it another myth? I've never defrosted any kind of chicken on a bone for my two as yet, but I now have a kilo of chicken wings in the freezer and am just wondering whether I should feed them frozen or if I can defrost them first. I'm not sure if either Pepper or Ellie would eat them frozen as Pepper is still not overly sure what to do with a chicken leg or something. Thanks in advance!

not sure about the chicken but my friend feeds whole fish straight from the freezer and that what I shall do when my pup is home. Good for the teeth (and less smelly frozen)

Well I have been defrosting chicken on the bone for over 12 years with no problem. I also do not freeze anything if I do not have to before feeding. I also feed whilst it is still frozen on hot days.
Remember dogs are built to eat putrefying flesh, they consume manure, lick their own bottoms and drink out of the toilet!
People need to get over themselves and grasp the fact that feeding people does not require a degree, still less dogs.

I defrost sometimes. It depends on when I take the food out whether or not Oscar gets it frozen or thawed.
I feed lots of things fresh too.

Well, that's what I thought smokeybear. I know there's been lots of discussion on this forum about raw feeding and I'd never once seen anyone mention not defrosting chicken on the bone. I certainly wouldn't have thought twice about defrosting chicken legs or anything if I'm honest. I've only been freezing things because I've bought more than I needed since I'm currently only feeding raw at the weekends. As soon as the kibble is finished, they're going to get raw full time. Thanks karin, that's something to bear in mind - less smelly is always good in my book! Haha bextull, you sound like me. I'm always forgetting to get a tub of NI out in time for it to defrost fully. I often have a ball in the middle that's still solid. Does Oscar prefer eating it one way to the other?
