Do boarding kennels for hamsters exist?! Haha. I'm looking for someone to look after my two hams for a week in October - but I have no idea where to start looking?!

Small animal boarding does exist! I used to advertise for that as part of my business but I never got any takers haha. When I didn't have my gerbils and rabbits anymore I stopped advertising altogether as I got rid of all my small animal equipment and it was quite evident that that particular business venture wasn't very popular When I was setting it up I had a nose about online and there are a few places (around here anyway) that do it, maybe do a search for 'small animal/hamster boarding' in your area? A lot of the ones I found mainly advertise for rabbits and guinea pigs but it couldn't hurt to ask. Can you not leave them with a friend or relative?

I've found a couple online tonight but I'm not getting a great vibe from any of them There is one about twelve miles from me but the pics on their website show all the cages stacked on units in a shed, which I don't like and another one that looks a bit nice but charges £10 per day per cage so it's a bit out of budget really. I've found one I do like the look of and it's run by a vet nurse and ex-tutor at Writtle. They seem mainly geared towards rabbits but I've sent them a message on facebook asking about hamsters on the off chance. The only people I would really trust with them in my family are my mum and sister, who I'm going away with! My dad, whose having Alfie, just isn't a rodent person. As for friends, again, I don't really have any who are rodent savvy - apart from one, who lives in a studio flat with a cat and two dogs, so I think my hams would be terrified not being able to be shut away from them.

Are you offering Haha I was actually going to offer but did wonder if it was a bit far to travel for a hamster holiday Also I don't know if the cages would fit in barley's car If you're stuck for someone I'd be happy to help though But it would depend if my mum agreed and I'd have to find space for the cages lol

I'd offer if I was certain that Tigger wouldn't decide the hamster was a little snack <3
(Tigger's very food-driven and she thinks anything that moves is food)

However I know it's a big commitment (and my Syrian is in a 100cm x 50cm cage ), so please please don't feel obliged!! I'd offer if I was certain that Tigger wouldn't decide the hamster was a little snack <3 (Tigger's very food-driven and she thinks anything that moves is food) Hehe yep I'd prefer to come home to hammies that weren't in a cats belly

If you let me know the sizes of the cages and the dates you're away I'll have a measure up to see where they'll fit, if I'm available and ask my mum about it

Dates would be 22-27 (ish) of October. There might be a day or two variation either side, I can't remember exactly when! Again, please please don't feel obliged at all!

I take it those are the width and depth? Can you tell me the height too please? My gerbil and rat cages used to be on my dressing table but there is a height limit! I'm sure they should fit though, if a rat cage can fit then surely a hamster cage can

Are you sure they wouldn't keep you awake in your room at night?! Rupert sounds like a little rhino when he gets going on his wheel.

Don't worry, I can sleep through a bomb going off and if anyone else complains I could always move them downstairs during the night. I'll measure up and ask my mum about it tomorrow

Haha I used to love the sound of my hamsters moving about at night, I used to find I slept less well without animal noises at night! Also love the sound of my Terrapins water bubbling away all night, I quite miss that here.
I don't imagine you get terrapin sitters haha, but mum won't go on holiday unless my brother or dad are home as she doesn't trust anyone else with Sasha, so we've never had to try haha.
Have a nice holiday anyway! Even if it's without pets haha!
