My mother-in-law phoned yesterday about 5.30pm and said there was 2 strange birds in her back garden and they wouldn't go and next door's cat had been after them. We went down a bit later to see them and decided they were grouse. They were strutting around the garden and appeared to be quite tame. After about half an hour later we had to decide what to do with them as they wouldn't fly away when we clapped our hands. So, back up to my house and on the internet to find the number of a wild bird rescue centre. I spoke to the man that runs it and he said he would come for them when he closed the rescue centre and that he bet they weren't grouse! Well we weren't far wrong, when he saw them he decided they were young guinea fowl. I had an old cat carrier in the garden that was too small for my big cats so I took that down to put them in. What fun catching them! they were so fast and strong but I caught one and hubby caught the other one. So, now they are in the wild bird sanctuary and safe from cats (Toffee included) and foxes. They may have escaped from a garden - if we here of anyone losing any guinea fowl we can tell them where they are. And the sad thing? we forgot to get the camera and take some photos - they were so sweet.

Awwww shame about the pics - I adore guinea fowl I often see and hear them when I'm on The Pastures because they have a small flock roaming free range on the Alnwick Garden
