Hi all, hope maybe you can help me with something.... so yesterday Dotty started carrying her tail to the side. Mostly to the right but sometimes to the left. You notice it when her tail is either level or down. She doesn't seem to have any pain or be in discomfort, I have handled her tail, rear end etc and she is not pulling away. She is as happy and bouncy as always. Yesterday she was scooting a little and sitting down sharply and looking at her bum. Made me think of worms though her wormer is up to date. Have not seen her scooting today at all and only sat down a couple of times. I wondered maybe if it might be her anal glands? Supposedly it can feel quite uncomfortable if they get full. Her stools are always firm and have been of late also. Only other thing I thought of was she had a good hard run at beach yesterday, maybe she has jarred or bruised it? Anyway she is going to vets tomorrow for a health check, just happens to be good timing as part of her health plan anyway. I just wondered what other peeps thoughts are and if anyone has come across this before? What was the outcome? Thanks in advance

Hi McCuddlesI'd say it's probably anal glands - they tend to scoot then. Amber did a similar thing and when we took her to the vets, it was anal glands alright. Good timing that you are going to the vets tomorrow anyway

Hi AnnaAmber, I'm thinking that's what it must be. Hopefully. I don't know what else it could be but I'm sure vet will set my mind at ease tomorrow. Like I say I have only seen her scoot couple of times today and not for long. She gets wormed every three months now. Used to be monthly but when she started going to kennels when she was younger she would occasionally come back with the odd tick. They are set in acres of woodland so she loves it but alas the odd tick so wormer changed to tri monthly to take into account flea and tick treatment. All in all she does seem better today but tail still at funny angle. I can't quite get my head around it, I want to hold it straight for her

Could she be coming into season? When Katy does she always holds her tail to the side and takes a greater interest in looking and smelling.

Just a wee update...back from the vets and he says she has anal gland inflammation. So she got her glands expressed eww stinky and an injection of metacalm. So she's on a strict dog food only diet, no bakers crap etc (not that she ever got any) and definitely no scraps from the table! She'll be right as rain by tomorrow or day after yayyyy!! Lesson learned, dogs eat good quality dog food, humans eat good quality(?!) human food. Sorry forgot to add sarahhound that Dotty has been spayed but thanks anyway

Thanks guys. She seems a little better today. Tail not so much to the side but still there a little. She's still as daft as a brush though Got the new mag through today, was interesting to read the supplement for natures menu. Not sure I would put her on it full time, other half couldn't stomach it lol, but will certainly be looking at their range of treats to run alongside the fishmongers she gets just now. And all her other treats, deemed to be full of crap I will either give to her doggy pals if they want them or throw away.
