I've just had a letter off Tesco Pet Insurance and they are increasing Kai Ruki's insurance by £5 per month, from £13.98 to £18.98 which I think is expensive - thing is because I claimed last year when Kai Ruki had trouble with a lump on his jaw bone I can't change to another company where I won't be able to claim should the problem flare up again. I'll just moan about it instead!!!

Ooh that's a big leap! Skips insurance with Pet Plan works out at something like £35 a month, think it worked out at £5 a week to start with but he is 13. Friends dog is insured with Tesco too,but has had lots of claims and all paid without a quibble. We are lucky to have not needed Skips but you just never know.Big leaps do catch your breath though,so moan away lotsofcats,we all do it.

Skip's sounds just like one of our customer's with her old labrador Millie. She's always gone through Pet Plan and when Millie was young it was really cheap but in her final 18 months (she went to Rainbow Bridge about a year ago aged 14) she did develop a few things which needed what would have been pretty expensive treatment. Pet Plan covered them all without a quibble
After she lost Millie she said no more......she lasted about a month before she got back in touch with Millie's breeder and se now has a 9 month old girl called Daisy who is ADORABLE Brings her into the shop every morning when she gets her paper and she makes me SO broody

Tilly and Alfie are with Tesco and their insurance have gone up. Tilly turned 8 in February, so she's now considered an older dog which means her insurance has gone up more.
Her insurance is over £20 and we thought that was quite expensive, so looked about and it turned out that it was the cheapest!
Our old dog was with Tesco, which when Winnie had to have her spleen removed, the operation cost just under £1000 (I think!) and from what I know of, there was no hassle with Tesco paying out.

Ouch, lotsofcats, do you think that's due to claiming, age (mind you I think he's only 6 so I would have thought that shouldn't be a trigger) and/or just general price increases. Have they removed any multi-pet discounts (by accident or design) that you might have? It might be worth just querying the 36% increase.

Haven't they given a reason for the high increase? A pity the exclude former illnesses when you go to another company. Mine aren't insured. The insurance of my car -for people with a handicap- has increased with 40% because of the many accidents with those cars. Apologises all over in a lettter and even suggestions for other, cheaper companies. We, old people, lack concentration

I know you'll need to stick with them but maybe worth a call asking why it's gone up and you're not sure you want to continue see if they'll drop it a little and if they don't say you'll have a think about it and it gets you off the phone and still have the insurance but worth a shot to reduce it

I'm with Tesco to and put Buddy's up by £5...because of a claim last year.. I suppose Mary's will go up now as well...I can't change to another insurer either as I still have ongoing claims...

I can't compare it to Kiba-Khan's insurance as he is in a block of 3 with Bramble and Kobi, the dog and only costs £39.67 - it's cheaper in blocks of 3. Kai Ruki's on his own because his wasn't due when I changed them all over from a different company. Kali and her 2 girls are in another block of 3 for £15.32 a month and Toffee is on his own at £9.94 a month. Poor Aztec was never insured!!

Well riley is insured with pet plan hubby deals with that but I think he pays around £29.00 for life time cover,I know it went up this year I thought it was expensive but hubby wasn't sure I think he didn't want the hassle of looking around really so I wouldn't like to think how much it will go up as he gets older.
When I got sindy I insured her with tesco - I think it started off around £5.15 but then a couple of years ago it went up to around £10:18.so I shopped around and I decided to go with argos pet insurance I was paying £9.15 but was in the silver package but she was covered for more than when I was with tesco.having said that I didn't end up putting in a claim after sindy's treatment as I had to stand to the first £90.and then I could only really claim for her blood tests and her consultation fee we decided it wasn't really worth the hassle for what I would have got back.but they were very good when I rang them for their advice regarding a claim.and I have rec'd a lovely letter regarding the loss of sindy.
Me and hubby have discussed whether I would have just been better opening a savings account and putting money into the account each month but I suppose it is just peace of mind knowing you have some kind of insurance if needed.:-)

chantel;I agree,it's peace of mind to have insurance. If pet suffers a lifetime illness like diabetes you are covered on a lifetime policy, and a lady I met with Springer which was attacked on a holiday and ended up needing a leg amputating which cost £4000,(her insurance limit) was very thankful for her pet insurance. We all have car and house insurance, but hope it's never needed.
