Considering Alfie is a terrier and meant to have a strong prey-drive where rodents are concerned, he really couldn't care less about them! I can sit on the sofa with Rupert climbing all over me and Alfie can be sat at the other end and not even bat an eyelid, he's such a good boy. I haven't tried taming Joey yet and I'm not sure I going to attempt it either, everything I have read seems to point to Robos being ''look but don't touch'' pets since they're so fast and jumpy! We'll see though, I'm still leaving him well alone to settle in for now.

Basil was an evil little bugger haha as soon as you put your hand in his cage he would go mental and bite you! Definitely look but dont touch Think it will be worth taming him though! I used to have gerbils and people say the same about them but i could handle them fine, I just had to be quick! The robos we had at college were fine to handle.

I think I'll give it a go when he's settled in a bit more! Although it'll definitely be handling with hands down inside his tank, he's so quick and tiny that I'd never catch him if he got loose on the floor!

I used to put my gerbils in the bath for a run around and so I could handle them without them escaping or a big cardboard box!

I don't have a bath! Just a shower room, although I guess that would work too as it's a fairly small and enclosed room. If not, a big cardboard box is a good idea!

Oh that's a shame haha a bath is perfect! I used to sit in there with them and everything and they would use me as a climbing frame

Lovely to see your new addition, he's gorgeous. Just my tuppence worth....I had gerbils for many years from the age of about ten until thirty three, always swore I'd never be without them, then dotty came along and they didn't always get the attention they required so when my last boy went that was the last. Anyway...you were saying about being difficult to handle and catch etc if out running. Mine were always friendly, came to see you, bribed with banana, carrot, gerbil choc etc. when out running in living room or wherever they always came to me, but if on occasion they got spooked and were difficult to catch I always had a long tube of cardboard, you know the type you get from wrapping paper, to hand, so no doubt if they got scared they'd head straight for the nearest tunnel or hideaway place and it was a great way to catch them without scaring them further, just put your palm over the other end so they can't get out. Hope this helps and he comes round more to being handled My parents also looked after them when I was on hol and they'd use this method also if they needed to catch them quickly

There is just too many places in my flat where he could hide if he was to jump onto the floor and I'd never find him, and I can't guarantee what Alfie would do either if there was a tiny ham loose on the floor! He seems really content left to his own devices though and is such a busy little bee, always on the go, he's great fun to watch
