I know this section is for non-pet topics but this one covers so many pet areas I thought I'd best post it here.
Did anyone see today's Animal Frontline on BBC1 ? I'm drying my eyes as I write this, even though the bit I'm referring to had a happy ending. The dogs who had to have their fur clipped, I couldn't have imagined they could have grown so much hair! The duck story was amusing. The cat rescue was ingenious although I do remember someone posting on the old forum that a tree surgeon had rescued her dad's cat.
Whether people like or don't the work of the RSPCA (I believe their attitude can depend on the local areas from what I've heard) this is an interesting program, distressing in places but an interesting insight in to what they may have to deal with.

Dash it!I ring programmes I want to watch (as there is so much dross) or record, but went swimming and forgot DOH! Thanks for reminding us though,I have a prog ringed to record at 3pm on Pick(RSPCA AnimalRescue)at least your reminder has prevented me missing that one too, thanks. I love the RSPCA rescue progs, one I really enjoyed was watching the inspectors in training,it was a proper eye opener as to what they are up against. My only problem with them was getting through to an idiot taking call who didn't take call about an animals suffering seriously and gave them a rollocking,it was sorted very quickly after that. But that was the person on the end of the phone line who was at major fault that time.

I saw it this morning, the poor dogs, glad to see one of them in its new home, poor dogs must have been suffering. The ducks were great, benny hill theme tune would have gone well and what's with the guy saying he was going to eat the duck!

Was able to watch today while playing domestic goddess(pile of ironing)it was superb.I don't do tears,I do angry! I have seen Inspector Claire Dew in action on many progs over the years, she is just brilliant.Todays was really gut wrenching, but as they say, they rely on people reporting,as these hell on earth 'lives' would carry on.They are always there somewhere. The prog on Pick is also on everyday, and worth recording too.It never ceases to amaze me how wicked and so far from being able to be called human beings some of these sub humans are.Sadly the maximum these low life can be sentenced to is 6 months,(then more likely becomes 3.)Grrr! People from one case were banned from owning dogs for life, but again,it needs people to report them if they do get another.

I'm ashamed to be from the same region as the poor matted shih tzus! It was all over the north east news last night, poor things.
I also saw yesterday's, the puppy farm got me really riled up! I'd love to be an inspector, I'd just need to learn to control my temper with those people. I however, wouldn't want to work for the RSPCA as I've heard a lot of stories about them turning down people's concerns as the animal isn't skin and bone!

On one prog a while ago, the r.s.p.c.a. explained to owners reported for having half starved dogs,(which were found to be pictures of health),that they get many malicious calls to deal with, but have to make the visit,(the owners were understandably furious,) so I think at times they can't win. A friend said she had made remarks over someones skinny dog,and I said "but what if she has just adopted it,or it may be diabetic? the owner might not dare take it out again." It's always best to get a conversation going rather than jump to conclusions. But yes,if you do have to alert them to a problem,it is wise to make follow up call to make sure a visit has been made.

The R.S.P.C.A. Afternoon prog is from Australia, one very sick cat was paralysed through tick bites which happens there it's called Tick Paralysis.Thankfully it can be treated if found soon enough, this poor cat had five ticks attached to it but was treated successfully Another case was 2 dogs stolen and dumped on an island to fend for themselves, the tiny one was found starved to death, the boxer survived though was skin and bone.It was so traumatised it was on the island for 6 weeks befor it could be trapped and returned home.Poor owners hadn't had any complaints about the dogs,so were baffled that anyone could do such a thing.Wierd people the world over.

I'm enjoying the Animal Frontline programme but it makes me sad and very angry how horrid some people can be. Oh and Stupid, can't forget that. People can be very stupid!!
