You're welcome Nope. And I don't mix it in either, I just sprinkle it on top so it's visible but it doesn't stop them eating it at all. I'm not sure about that I'm afraid. I usually tip the whole lot on at once (and I have to give three sachets).

Cooper is just awkward?!? He use to take the worming tablet in cheese then he found it and stopped. Then it was broke into 4 bits in to his food. But he found it so stopped eating. I then had to crunch it up in his food. But the other day he left a load of wet and grated carrot at the bottom of his bowl as it had the tablet bits in it??? Oh Brother!!

Only worm when I believe they have worms, no point putting chemicals in them for no reason!
I do flea/tick preventative now though, every 2 months, because I have a lot of dogs coming and going and it only takes one with a flea before I have a problem!

Because of Advocate not covering tapeworms (isn't it?) and ticks.... I think my parents are less likely to go for that. However, I am going to try and convince them to at least go down to 3 monthly for worming (maybe using Verm X in between times)....same for fleas/ticks (but will use Billy No Mates or similar in between times) my Mum is still not sure yet. I will try anyway....!

This is a great thread for me as I am worried about over kill on the chemicals. I intend to feed a holistic food with contains the herbs to fight worms and fleas. I love the garlic idea and have thought of buying natural liver and garlic treats. This is the dry food company that I will use - www.greendogfood.co.uk/
I will be using whatever the vets provide for my puppy for the first 6 months but after that I am hoping to cut down on treatments to a couple of times a year although always open to suggestion from the wise. thanks

My poor understanding about green dog food is that it claims to provide plenty of ingredients which make the dog healthy which in itself helps dogs to keep the parasites at bay. It does not actually contain anything which actually kills / repels the parasites!! The fish based one is grain free From their own FAQ section www.greendogfood.co.uk/faqs/ Q: How can Green Dog products help against parasites?
A: Green Dog products are based on the concept of Holistic Nutrition which reflects the natural diet of the dog. This supports the immune system, promoting digestive vitality through maintenance of digestive flora, and enabling the system to cleanse and detoxify itself.

So I was up late last night and decide to google!! As you do. Am I right in thinking there are no products out there that just treat ticks?? I couldn't find any spot on, tablets etc that you can help keep ticks at bay without also treating fleas?? If so I find that a bit strange??

If there aren't any then I suspect it maybe because no one has bothered to produce them as fleas are the more common problem & hence not the perceived demand for tick only. Don't really know but just a thought

Yeah I guess but I do find it a bit strange when there seems to be more areas with tick problems and the fact that you can get diseases from them. I could only find shampoos but not sure how effective they would be. Would one bath before a weeks holiday be enough to keep them at bay?? Where we plan to go on holiday has ticks in some areas and to be honest they really freak me out!!!

I have more issues with fleas than ticks, strange!! I guess I have been taught how to deal with ticks since a kid and the tick tools make life so much easier to get them out without leaving head behind. I just put in a piece of tissue and flush. Was told recently don't squeeze the live ones as you just spread the eggs!!
I am hoping the BNM will be a good repellant when I do go into tick prone areas, will let you know how I fair next time I go to Thetford, new forest, dartmoor or similar!!

Fleas are my issue too, ticks don't bother me in the slightest. Infact, I took one off my ankle yesterday! The thing with ticks is once they are gone, that's it, they're gone. Fleas stick around!
