Isis gets the raw wings off the chicken on Sundays too. Can't give them to Rio because I worry about him and the bones. Isis just crunches them up but I don't think he could do that.
I noticed a real difference in Rio and Isis when I moved them onto raw. Their coats looks so much better, their breath doesn't smell (except for when they have tripe or fish.. then it really stinks). And their poos are alot better, plus they seem to love it. Wouldn't ever go back.

What exactly do you worry about Isis and the bones in the chicken wing?

I don't worry about Isis eating them. Isis crunches them up ok.

Sorry, meant to say Rio...
Are you worried he might try to swallow whole? You could chop it up in small pieces so he would benefit from it without you worrying about it. Or you could hold it from him so he would have to chew off bits...
This dog swallowed a whole chicken wing at 9 weeks of age. Is still here 12 and a half years later...

Edited to add - the chicken wing was longer than the dog.....

Yeah he is a bit of a gulper, but also I wonder if he will be able to crunch it with his little mouth.

You could test him by holding the chicken wing for him, tip towards him and see. I bet he will start crunching and enjoy it.

I will give it a go. He has stolen a couple of Isis before in the past and all he has done is chew the wing tip and then left it but maybe he will prefer it if i hold it for him.

aston don't worry about Rio not being able to crunch up the bones - my cats eat raw and they can eat chicken wings with very little help. It's just a case of them gradually building up the jaw muscles. I started them on chicken necks, which isn't really bone, and they learned fairly quickly to chew them rather than trying to gulp them up, and then i would chop chicken wings for them and now they get chicken wings in quite large chunks, working up to having them whole which I know some people do feed their cats. Rio will have a stronger jaw than my cat Carlotta (Who has had at least one tooth removed and before raw had absolutely shocking teeth) and she is great at eating bones, and absolutely loves them too.

I don't know what your chicken necks look like but the ones my dogs get are mainly bone. In my opinion stronger bone than in chicken wings.

aston has a Chihuahua, so hopefully you'll be able to exchange notes,
Can't think of anybody else with a Chi...
Hopefully next year
Three things I would recommend with Chihuahuas....
Definitely try raw feeding as it'll really benefit their teeth (friend of mine on facebook has one and his teeth are fantastic - absolutely gleaming)
Don't dress her up in dresses and shoes
Don't carry her everywhere....let her use those four wee leggies of hers No reason why a Chi cannot walk just as far as you can. A happy Chihuahua is one that is treated like a dog and not a doll They're a fabulous breed

zahada as far as I know, chicken necks are just cartilage and not actual bone itself. They are very soft compared to normal bone in any case, and one of my cats (Carlotta) will eat them whole no problem. Mieze seems to be mostly fine with them but she's not so good at larger "bone" stuff yet.

My dogs take longer getting through necks than wings or legs.
Well if that is true you have educated me. Off to google it....
