Just playing, but it did sound like you were telling Scallywag off a tad.

No! I was simply stating what I thought - I wasn't personally very impressed how Scallywag was reacting to my comment.

Scallywag;your post with smiley shooting its self had me laughing out loud, sooo funny!I love them all and all make me chuckle.Do NOT apologise for making a fresh thread,(B.T. has a short memory as she nearly drove us nuts with her numerous pointless threads at one time on the old forum,it was so bad I was on the point of leaving). I have also wondered why people join but never post, noticed it happens more around Christmas when there is the chance of bagging prizes. If they could think of just one topic of interest(if a subject interests their curiosity,it's bound to be of interest to someone else), the forum would be streaking along.

That definitely happened around Xmas on the Your Cat forum. I agree about just one topic even it is an introduce yourself, which usually (but always) starts things going.

I don't have a short memory, I remember clearly that. I MISUNDERSTOOD what scallywag meant! It happens! The occurance of pointless threads was in the first week maybe of me being a member, it was my first forum, and I was the youngest member at the time. I had never been on a forum before, I was still getting used to what one was at the time!! I would prefer not to be put down for the past. scallywag; I'm very sorry for misunderstanding you. You don't have to worry, it was a total misunderstanding.

I think this thread has shown why some people register and don't post. Some people are unsure of what to say and others are scared of what people may thing of their posts and comments cause like has been said its the Internet and things can be taken different ways. I joined the last forum and watched for a while before I posted and even then was only a few times.

That's a fair comment teegiebear. It looks like you feel confident to post on this forum at least to some extent

You get it on many forum. Loads more people joining then posting. You will never change that. I'm on here late at night sometimes and there are loads of guests on the forum. And it was the same on the old YD and the old old YD?!?

There's members like that on every forum. Some just like to read and lurk, others join from other forums to see what competition they have.

People who join then appear to be online wouldn't have forgotten about the forum, because they'd be online! They probably lurk on the forum picking up bits and bobs of info then leaving. On an old forum I was on (not anymore) they had a strict rule - whoever joined and did not post for ZZZ amount of days/weeks, were deleted from the membership list of that forum because Mods hated lurkers who thought they could have membership then not take part! They also have a rule where only regular participating members can have full access to the forum. That is also a reason I did not stay. I have this forum as my main, and I wouldn't be kept on the membership list anyway because I would not post THERE enough.
I wonder how many forums have the same sort of rules?

BorderTerrier I've been a member on several forums like that. You couldn't get on certain parts unless you had posted a large amount of posts and if you didn't post you were deleted. I don't know if thats the way to go but it stopped Trolls and people who just joined to promote their product etc.

Nothing wrong with chat on the forum as long as it's in the right place?!?!
