Labrador Retrievers are still the most popular dog breed in the United States according to a ranking released Thursday by the famous American Kennel Club. Bulldogs and French Bulldogs are both reaching the top fast!
I was surprised to see the Border Collies in the 30ish part of the table...

I have to admit I'm rather terrified at the thought of the bulldogs continuing to rise in popularity. Most breeds suffer greatly at the hands of the hordes of people who want them when they go through a spell of boosted popularity, due to increased levels of inbreeding and/or careless breeding. For breeds that are already quite prone to problems (breathing issues, spinal problems, not being able to give birth naturally etc.) the extra popularity can be even more detrimental and should be handled very carefully by the KC. They should be releasing lots of information to the public about those breeds to ensure breeders who put their dogs' welfare at the heart of what they do are the ones promoted and not the all-too-often-bought-from puppy farms and the like that mass produce too-squashed, poorly dogs.
But the KC don't seem to do much about these things.
