Hi everyone
i grew up with dogs and four years ago we lost our 15yr old German shepherd. Since then we have had several rats and now have four chickens.
As a family we have decided to get a kitten - a first for me and the kids though my husband always had cats in childhood.
We are waiting til after our summer hols and debating the name of our new family member.
I have my heart set on a tabby.
will be needing plenty of advice in the coming months I'm sure!

Kebyss, welcome to the mixed pet forum I too was brought up with dogs but now have 4 cats! Where are you going to get your kitten from? A rescue or a breeder? Don't hesitate to ask however silly you think it may seem. We've all been a first time cat owner & I've always had adult cats so if I ever got a kitten I'd be asking for help here, there are plenty here who will help. Look forward to hearing more about your progress in finding the right kitten & your chickens.

Ur dog is gorgeous. We had our neighbours border briefly whilst he was in hospital.
Love another dog but can't commit to the exercise regime! Work etc!
But a house without a pet isn't a home!

Hi Sarah, welcome to the pet forum. My first dog after I got married was a German Shepherd - she had to be put to sleep at aged 10 due to her legs giving way. Yours did well to live to 15 years old.
Great that you are going to have a kitten. I really love tabbies and when I first got married I was on the look out for a tabby kitten but didn't get my first tabby until I'd been married 27 years!! my 2 Maine Coon cats are tabbies. I'm Jenny and I have 7 cats and 2 dogs. I look forward to hearing all aout your kitten when you get it - you might even consider having 2 kittens - I did and it is lovely to have 2 together but hard work! Anything you want to ask we are all here for you - someone will have an answer.

Hiya and welcome! I have a 12 year old tabby girl called Rigsy There tends to be loads of tabbies in rescue as they aren't a 'desirable' colour, basically, they are quite common! So it would be great if you did have a look at rescues first, they are really struggling to home cats at the moment. Hope you find your perfect kitty cat
