Today was Roman's annual checkup & booster vet visit.
As most of you know our cats have access to the outside as they want. Roman normally comes in when Mark goes to the back door for his first smoke of the day! (Mark's good about not smoking in the house & Roman can use the catflap but often prefers the doorman service ) He then settles down for the morning with a slight interruption to his snoozing for his breakfast. So I booked the appointment for 10 a.m. so that the cats would all be fed and we'd guarantee to have Roman in without having to irritate the other cats by shutting them all in.
Today he was in much earlier (or late going out) & decided to go out when Mark got up!! Now he might have come back later but, as we couldn't be sure when, we managed to catch him before he actually got out - one occasion when his waiting for the door was to our benefit He wasn't happy but settled down to his confinement in a room for a couple of hours with his breakfast.
A few moans about being in the carrier & into the vets but he was as good as gold . For some reason the surgery appointments were running over, I think we got in about 10:25. He was pronounced to be in very good condition & well hydrated (he has been drinking for longish periods, compared to our other cats, but I think its not quantity just being a slow drinker as we don't see the water levels go down much) so the vet had no concerns as there was nothing else to indicate a problem.
However it would have been great to see a video of getting him out the carrier. With the height of the table & the large carrier I sometimes find it difficult to get him out of the top. So today it was tip him out of the front opening of the carrier assisted by pulling the mat out as well, normally that works but today he got to the carrier being vertical before he came out! When the carrier was opened again when the vet had finished he went in very quickly - time to go home!! Slight mistake on our behalf though as I wanted to get his weight checked & the scales were in the other consulting room at this branch. So we had to repeat the process to get him out again for weighing. It was a case of the carrier being vertical again!! Poor boy. I should have thought & carried him through. Still he was a health 5.45 Kg. basically static from his last weighing in October
Of course when he was back home he went out again for a few hours.
