AHHHHHH I NEED HELP!!! So, yesterday on my way back from boxing i found these dried up frogs (well i've just found out they where toads..) literally close to death, i ran home with them and put them in a huge bowl with water and a rock in, my nan has been telling me to take them somewhere like a pond but i said i will later because i just want to keep my eye on them for today, well i have just went to check on them and there is LOADS OF TOAD SPAWN IN THE BOWL!!! I don't know what to do, the female toad is still giving birth, do i just leave her to it or find them water, i don't know anything about toads, just frogs!!! My nan will go crazy when she gets home Any advice?!?!?!?! Ew, just thinking now,i had hold of mating toads

HaHa!!! Sorry that last bit cracked me up!! Have you got a pond or know of friends that do? If so you could put the spawn in there? But I would take the toads back to where you found them but in a safe area if by road, maybe there was a pond near by. As for the spawn, there is no reason why you can't keep it till it hatches?? I use to take frog spawn in to the classroom when I taught in a school and then released when they had changed into frogs. If you don't want to do that then as I said above either to a friends pond or closes water to were you found the toads.

If you have a local park with a pond or lake I;d take them there. I have frogs and frog spawn in my garden pond, it's murder trying to do any gardening when all the baby frogs are leaving the pond for fear of harming any.

Yeah tell me about it, they are so small. Every year we have to leave the grass cutting till they have gone and I have to do a big check first for fear of Death by Flymo!?! Cooper and The Baby Frog.

Hi! Well done for rescuing them! I love toads- their eyes are beautiful. Toads always return to the pond/ river/ where-ever they were born to spawn. The spawn that your toads are laying can go into ANY pond- the safer area the better, away from busy roads etc as they will move away once grown up then return every year to spawn there. The toads themselves need to be returned to where you found them. Then they will make their way back home again. Don't return them just anywhere as it may mean they have a much longer and potentially more dangerous journey to get back 'home'. Feed mealworms or normal worms if you keep them from any time and make sure they have an area to go not in water. Toads like damp places but don't live in ponds themselves. Hope this helps. I do a lot of wildlife rescue!

They must have came to visit you Scallywag Thankyou so much for all the help everyone, i took the toads back to the canal, where i found them, and i placed the toad spawn into the water. My brother came with me, he couldn't believe it, he's seem me take in all sorts of creatures i'd found but he found this really amusing Gladys- We get loads of frogs in the summer, we can't mow the lawn till they're all gone!!! It all started because one year the ponds by mine dried up and all the baby frogs died so from then on I brought the spawn to mine and let them hatch... in my room LOL then let them into the garden when they where big enough. Now they come back.. oops Heres some pictures of the toads.. mating in my hands

Toads are lumpy and frogs are smooth looking - normally!!

Well done for saving the toads, but so funny that you ended up with lots of toad spawn. You are braver than me - I am absolutely terrified of frogs and toads - it's when they jump!

My advice is to keep them away from your dog(s)................ they emit a toxin which causes a very bad reaction.

So true S.B.Years ago my fathers dog found one in one of our dry stone walls and carried it to us,he was spitting foam for the rest of that day,he kept well away after that.Think they must taste VERY nasty. Do toads crawl and frogs hop? can't remember which way it is.
