Hi any advice would be much appreciated. Well Riley is 21 months now and last night out of the blue he started to hump his angry bird fluffy toy,he has never done anything like this before. we have talked in the past about getting him castrated, the only thing he really does is when out on his walks he constantly sniffs and licks but we have never felt the need to get him castrated. is it something we should be thinking about now? i'v only ever had bitches in the past. does his humping mean that he is frustrated?

welcome to the forum jackie sorry its in such circumstances. First of all let me give my condolences on the passing of your cat on saturday. As to the escapee, do you live nearby & might the cat find its way home? fingers crossed. I presume you told the vets what happened so they can keep a look out for her/him. Is the cat microchipped, if so make sure your details are up to date with the microchip company. This link has good advice on what to do about a lost cat. www.catchat.org/lost.htmlPlease let us know what happens & hopefully it will be good news.

chantel: Regarding dogs humping.Skips a humper at times, his is an over excited dominance thing. He tends to do this to male younger dogs he likes, like German Shepherds,Mastiff, a Standard Poodle was the latest one.He plays, then does this as if to say ' I am boss dog'. There is never any nastiness we just grab him quickly.Owners are thankfully experienced in dogs strange habits, but it doesn't stop you feeling a little embarrassed, the only thing to do is apologise and laugh it off.He has always got on well with larger breeds, while some dogs are wary of them and he was the only dog in our dog club quite relaxed about nervous German Shepherd training alongside him. We adopted him from the R.S.P.C.A. at just under a year old,so he was already neutered etc,he is 12 now. I haven't come across a dog whose temperament has changed for the worse by neutering, but some who have had it done for humping alone haven't found any improvement. An elderly lady had a Westie which wildly humped chair cushions, leaving her mortified if guests were present, so his opp didn't solve his problem. Dogs are experts at embarrassing us.

Well riley humping isn't really a problem as yet, although he did hump his angry bird again last night. My only other issue that i discussed with mt vet last time we visited was if we had riley castrated it would reduce the risk of testicular cancer/prostate but my vet said "that if their wasn't any problems with riley to leave him a lone as the risk would be something like 1 in 4. Me and hubby have discussed it but are unsure what to really do as their are mixed views on this subject and like i said last time i don't want to take the risk of riley becoming more nervous.
