Pets I own: Rosie a Maine Coon, Red and Cream.Aged 4 year in (May2014), a BIG quiet girl, and TiaMaria a Black Russian years on (Nov 2013) who is amazing fun.
Sadly Tia was killed in July 2014 by a car.
My son has Parkinsons and lives 2 miles from me. I got him RILEY a black stray 2year old in February 2014, but from a rescue 14 months ago.Very involved with him !
Pebbles age unknown, thrown out of a car, went to my daughter. Also involved with him ! ALL are adorable and so different.
Now (OCT 2014) have a kitten called Lilyana. She looks like her Mum, a Russian Blue. Her Dad is a Rag Doll. She was born on 24/07/2014....the day my darling Tia was killed on the road.
This was meant to be and she is helping me grieve for Tia. Lilyana is delightful.Rosie is now taking to her

In this months magazine under the article about allergies, it advised that you should not let your cat lick you. My two cats would be SO offended if I refused to let them lick me. Surely it must be very bad manners to stop them doing that as they view you as one of the pack and mutual grooming as 100% natural. I can see the point of washing afterwards but not in stopping them doing it. What do you think ? P.S. I have had to re-register to get on the forum. It would not recognise my email address of Forum name, which was TiamariaRosie. Although I recieved regular emails from Your Cat, they did not tell me about this new Forum. How long ago did it start ? I cannot come on as often as I would like as I care for my increasingly disabled son who lives 2 miles from me.I got him a rescue cat...one year old Riley, in January. Boy has he been a success. They adore each other. He let him out for the first time on 1st. March and since then he has caught 15 mice, mostly outside. They live surrounded by fields, crops, woodland, almost no traffic, horses an abundance of wildlife and birds. Can I send Your Cat photos of a larger size now?

Welcome back. My cats lick me all the time, I don't let them lick my lips, but I don't mind my cheeks or anything, they find it comforting and its a way of greeting me, same as my dogs and my horses do it to me as well for that matter. (I spend a lot of time with all my animals). Do you mean your own photos? Or other photos? I am pleased to hear your son is doing well with his new bestfriend!

My Georgia licks me. I think this is down to common sense. If you're about to cook etc and you've been licked on your hands or stroked the cat then wash them.

I let my Athena lick my hand all the time. Of course, if I'm about to handle food I'll wash my hands before I do. Like heartpawprints says, it's down to common sense

Welcome back. I remember that you gave your son a cat and that they love each other. My cats never lick me, but I don't think it's a problem. You can put your photo's here as well (add attachment and insert)

The time I remember best is of being VERY ill with Flu and sitting in my chair, unwashed hair, face, everything. Rosie,my Maine Coon came up and washed my face thoroughly, then went up on the back and started licking my dirty hair, and kept at it for at least 5 minutes until it was soaking wet ! I was immensely touched. She knew I was ill and tried to take care of me. I actually felt better afterwards and did shower and wash my hair after. Cats have such beautiful, pure souls. Bless them.
About photos, I wondered if I sent a photo to the magazine with a view to them including it, could I now get it on? Previously they said it was too many megabites.

Hi, welcome to the new forum, it started about a month ago after a lot of problems particularly on the Your Cat forum. Nice to hear from you again, I remember you from the old forum & like Elly I recollect when you were getting your son a cat, I'm really glad its worked out & that Riley is enjoying the big adventure of the outside, though not so sure about the wildlife capture. At least he keeps them outside (most of the time), ours have a tendency to bring them indoors & one of them brings them in alive, catching them can be fun (not) !!!! I think the advise on licking is specially for the allergy sufferer as Jenny (Broken04) said on another thread its the saliva that can trigger the allergic reaction. If it means someone can keep their cats then its probably for the best but I know what you mean about licking being part of their normal behaviour. That's a lovely story of Rosie looking after you Don't think the size of photos sent to the magazine has changed. On its photo page it says around 300 dpi & 1Mb. On the forum there is a 1Mb limit for your avatar but I think its 3Mb for a picture in a post or use something like photobucket & give the link to the photo there.

It makes me go all funny, lol, it really does make me cringe if any animal licks me, our Dave does it, bless him, he is only showing his affection but I do try to discourage cats licking me. I love to cuddle them though.
Nice to see you back on the forum.

Lexie is our washer of hands, although in her case it tends to turn into chewing & nipping. Trying to get her out of that habit! She knows exactly what No means & stops then a few seconds later starts again!!!

daintipawz I must admit when she licks my chin it does make me cringe a bit, that rough tongue is just weird!! Don't mind on the hand though. The funniest thing is watching my dog Coopers face when she licks his ear, I don't think he likes the rough tongue either??
