.. at the vets!
On Tuesday he started being a bit loopy, charging around & being grumpier than normal, noticed the odd twitch on is back - he's always done that but this seemed a bit more. Wednesday morning he came in minus his collar - which thanks to the loc8tor I found OK & there was a bit of his fur caught in it, thought a possible fight. However he was still twitching & washing more than normal & rather urgently. In the evening after his tea I went to put his collar back on & he really didn't want it - but with a bit of a struggle it was on but he was twitching/rolling his skin & again charging around & washing. In the process we weren't sure if we'd seen a bit of matt fur on his side but he wouldn't let us look. He went out & didn't want to come in again. I wonder if it wasn't a fight but excessive grooming pulling at the collar & causing the safety catch to operate.
This reminded me of smilesbetter's Carlotta. This morning he came in, slightly less twitchy but pacing & wary of everything, also quick burst of washing. I managed to give him a really good groom with no bad effect until he'd enough when he turned really grumpy, then he started twitching. So when he started to hang around & not go out I decide to ring the vet. We got an appointment for 3:35, saw a good one. I'd taken a short video of one of Osiris' mild twitches to show him. He found a definite sore point on Osiris's back in the lumber region so there were 3 options:-
Do nothing for a few days & see what happens
Give pain medication & see what happens
or x-rays.
The vet thinks he's probably too young (8) for arthritis but isn't ruling it out, he listened when I mentioned about Carlotta but that I knew there were other things to rule out first. He thought that x-raying was probably more of a last resort as it would only confirm what was suspected by the the options. He checked back on the records & saw Osiris had been treated in June for an odd gait. I then said that I knew Osiris had been advised to have dental scaling which would need a general anaesthetic so perhaps that was the way forward & he agreed.
so Osiris is booked for a general, dental work & a couple of x-rays tomorrow. Kill 2 birds with one stone! He then asked if I wanted to leave him with them tonight - at no charge! So he's having a rest in their hospital tonight & the vet will contact me tomorrow.
If it is spondylitis (or was that spondylosis) / arthritis then there are a number of treatment options:-
painkillers, anti-inflammatories, acupuncture & more I can't remember.
First Roman & now Osiris - we are doing well!
