Raw feeders, if you feed chicken legs or turkey legs (for example), do you remove the skin or leave it on? Are there any benefits to leaving it on or is it just classed as being too fatty? I'm trying to plan what I'm going to get the girls for their Sunday meal and am considering either chicken legs or a turkey leg, but I'm not sure what to do with the skin. Ellie ate it last time, but Pepper wouldn't. Thanks!

I feed both. Never removed the skin before. No idea if its got benefits of its own, but shouldn't do any harm if its takenn off. Pepper might eat it if you take off the skin so she gets to the meat. You coul always try warming it a little in a bowl of hot water too for her and see if that works.

Oh that's a good idea. I never thought about warming it like that. I was sure I'd seen it somewhere that it should be removed, but I wasn't totally sure and I can't remember where I saw it. Thanks Bextull! I might pull the skin down rather than remove it altogether and see if that helps. Now she's been eating raw for a few weekends, she might get the idea straight away.

Skin is very good for them but in moderation...it is very high in fats so if you have a dog needing weight keep it on but a dog that puts a lot of weight on easily limit the amount. Skin is a good source of vitamin E as well.....I give a little bit of skin every now and again, I did find with one of my dogs that he got really bad reflux with skin but a teaspoon of Manuka Honey and he is fine. so in short, skin is good

Ooh that's good to know. Thanks Rubyroo! Looks like Pepper will get a bit less than Ellie then, considering she puts weight on easier than Ellie does!

Haha! Well, I have to admit that last time they had chicken breast quarters, they ate them with the skin on, but I had seen it somewhere that the skin should be removed as it's too fatty. But I suppose if they're not fed it for every meal it won't be much of an issue?
