I've just been looking at a Border Collie at a rescue centre. He is between 2 and 4 years of age and very, very nervous of everything. Why? Because he has spent his entire life shut in a shed!!! I can believe anything is possible in the way of cruelty to animals, like beating, kicking, using shock collars, feeding Bakers, but the sheer mental cruelty of this situation is absolutely appalling. And, yet again, it begs the question WHY have a dog if you treat it like this? It is impossible to imagine what this poor dog went through - and now has the trauma of learning to live in the real world, though with a lot of love and gentle encouragement.

Aww poor thing :/..that's horrible..did whoever did this go to prison or get fined? Hopefully he will find a good home with patient people who are willing to get him used to different environments to help with his nervousness. But yeah I agree some people are just horrid and hopefully they have got punished.

That's so sad & so unnecessary. What a long journey of rehabilitation its going to be for him but a worthwhile one. Hope the rescue centre can soon get him to the state of being able to find his forever home who will continue the good work.

Can't understand the logic either.Friends dog spent 3yrs on chain at farm in the Lake District where they have a caravan, she was nervous of everything and took a few years to act more lie a pet.She had never been indoors. Another man adopted his dog in similar circumstances,he had noticed it fastened to chain and talked farmer into letting him have it.That dog almost had him on his back at times at the dog training club, but he never gave up on him.He won an award for progress and everyone was so thrilled for him.Shows the other side of the coin, and what a dedicated owner can achieve. We have come across tiny windowless sheds in the Lake District where the working dogs are shut in when not working.

I found the bolded bit funny!!! A terrible thing for any dog to live his life in a shed. Will this dog be making an appearance in your home Collie Slave?

Hi Bextull. I think that this poor dog is too much of a challenge: he has great difficulties and our Bryn might be a bit too much of a dynamic companion for him! I'm still looking, though ....

I also had a little chuckle at the bit Bextull bolded, but how awful for that poor dog! I hope he finds a forever home that will give him the time he needs.

My last greyhound was treated the same she was in a shed for her 2 years, from birth to when a neighbour reported her 'owner' because he was going to shoot her, as she was taking up 'valuable' kennel space. She was hard work for the first 6 months, but she turned into a wonderful dog! Sadly I only had her 2 years, but they more than made up for her first two.

This is just shocking.
WHY, I ask, must people do this?
I also know a lovely little dog who got beaten and now is frightened of everything. People are utterly cruela nd weird in the mind, when they do this.
