We're new to the site and would love to hear some feed back on our situation. We have recently adopted a border collie whose owner is terminally ill, a very sad situation. We were wondering how long it will take for her to settle with us. She's 8, a lovely nature and seems very comfortable with us but it's early days and want to know what to expect. Any advice? Babs x

Welcome to the forum babsgraham;B.C.s are wonderful dogs.Collie Slave is the proud owner of two,and sodapop is the proud owner of 3! plus there are more,so you are in good company.Just be kind patient and calm around her,she will be feeling very strange and confused just now until she feels settled.Do you know the owner? Just wondering as it would be nice if it was possible for them both to keep some contact,e.g. visits. It is amazing just how quickly some dogs settle into a new home with the right feeding and exercise regime. Collies, like many working breeds are very intelligent, but harsh treatment can soon break their spirit, which you are probably aware.Good luck with her,her owner will be so happy she has found a good and caring home with you.

Welcome! Obviously it will take her a while to settle down completely, though it is hard to say how long as it varies from dog to dog. It is good that she is comfortable with you and I'm sure she will feel completely at home soon!

Welcome! All dogs are different, some dogs can settle as soon as they arrive in a house, like they've always lived there. Some need days or even weeks. She sounds quite happy with you already, so just keep doing what you're doing and she'll get there
