lauriejeanette, so sorry to hear the news of your terrier. Don't feel guilty about having the vaccine, we all rely on our vets to give us the best advice. Of course you will miss her but you have made the last act of love that you can do for your dog and she will have thanked you for it & will now be pain free running around at Rainbow Bridge with friends (old & new) who have gone before. I hope your vets have reported the reaction to the vaccination. Take care. RIP Little Yorkie girl

I have never had a dog reacting to vaccines in any way, so don't want to start now. I too have checked with my vet and they don't use L4. If ever they do, I'll be changing vets, after hearing these awful stories.

Definitely need to remember to ask about it next time I'm at the vet.

Hi everyone
Just posting an update. Phoenix initially recovered well from hers. However it has left her with lasting damage. Her stomach is now extremely sensitive and she has developed severe allergies to a lot of things. In July she had to go into the vets for Hematoma surgery and when we got her home she stopped breathing and we had to rush her back. She's had surgery before and never had a reaction like that. It's become a nightmare. She now has to have piriton daily and has been on and off antibiotics. Yet a year ago before this bloody vaccine she was a healthy dog. Her boosters are sue around now and we've weighed up the risks and decided that we're just not going to vaccinate her again. Her allergies are too severe that for us it's not worth the risk.

My little Yorkshire terrier had the lepto 4 vaccine in may, she suffered terribly for 5 months with severe seizures, blindness and crying all the time. On Thursday she had a seizure that lasted half an hour and she didn't know who i was for ages. On Friday i decided to let her go as she was in so much pain. I feel so guilty for letting her have the vaccine. I miss her terribly. Please think before giving your dog this vaccine especially little ones. I am so so sorry to hear this. This is such a tragedy. I'm so sorry for your loss. I have been pursuing this since phoenix had a bad reaction. Both myself and my vet reported it to the manufacturers, we took it further and DEFRA have been investigating as I kicked up a stink. I think this vaccine needs to be banned. I'm hearing so many stories of animals getting ill after vaccines. It makes me wonder what the hell they are putting in them these days?

jezebel so sorry to hear about the lasting damage that Phoenix has suffered after the vaccination, thank you so much for saying on here so that other owners know the risks. Keep us updated on how Phoenix is doing please, I really hope she can continue to live a happy life despite all the allergies.

jezebel, I assume that you and your vet got no joy with the manufacturers, Can you share the information / feedback they supplied to you or due to it going to DEFRA is it unable to be spoken about till the results back from there? I hope when you get a response from DEFRA that you can share what their findings are. Sorry to hear about Phoenix's problems

Hi, I am also trying to find more information about animals that have had a bad reaction to the New Nobivac Lepto 4 vaccine after our dog started with seizures straight after the vaccine. He also continues to have them a year later. He was also prior to vaccine a healthy dog, no exhisting medical problems. The only way to have an impact on the manufacturer, is to prove these vaccine reactions are not isolated cases, perhaps you could print off these forums pages, any info you find of other cases on other sites and take to your vet/ DEFRA/ manufacturer ( it will help support your argument). You might be interested in taking a look at Catherine O'Driscolls Facebook page, if you scroll down there is a post about a man who's dog has had a bad reaction to Nobivac lepto 4 and comments from others who's animals have had reactions aswell. Use all this to help you in pursuing. It is also in the vets practices interests. I wonder if you could do a petition of sorts for people to sign, who's animals have also had a reaction and what they were. All the best I hope you get somewhere and can share your results/feedback with us.

Here is the post 14th Jan I will post the link for you all to view comments- www.facebook.com/catherine.odriscoll.14?fref=nf&pnref=story I had a call at the weekend from a man whose dog is suffering after receiving the 4-way lepto vaccine. He's been at the vet's on a drip, is lethargic, and won't eat. I wonder if any dog owners have had similar experiences with this new vaccine? There is a journalist interested, so please contact me asap if this applies to your dog. Thanks. Catherine O'Driscoll

Ok well Jovie is booked in for her first jabs at 2:10 this afternoon I'll be asking if they use the lepto 4 as my vets use Novibac If they do I think I'm going to ask if they still have the normal one as there do t seem to have been as many issues with that. I also don't know any dogs that have suffered from Lepto. As far as I knew Canicola an Icterhaemorragia (spelling!?) were the most common. If it's not broke why fix it?
Not sure what I'll do if the vets aren't willing to give her the normal lepto one.

Lepto 4 is the new Lepto vaccine, according to our vet, and will be rolled out nationwide across every vet. That's what they told us! So there'll be no escaping it. Vaccine reactions are not specific to the Lepto 4 vaccine. migsy, I unfortunately hear of a lot of vaccine reactions, being in the right circles I think. Vets dismiss adverse reactions readily, without investigating. When Finn's cough emerged, Avansa asked the vet if it could be because of his recent vaccinations, and the vet dismissed the idea straight away. smilesbetter - I think live vaccines are more likely to cause reactions because they have preservatives in them, like mercury. jezebel - I'm so sorry about what happened to your dog As I mentioned above, Finn has a cough that started after his vaccines. A bit like asthma, it now affects him when the weather is wet, cold or dry, if we have a fire and if the room is dusty. Room sprays etc and anything that would set off an asthmatic also start him wheezing, including excessive exercise. It's not the most life-affecting thing, but it is uncomfortable for him and not nice to see as his loving owners. A dog that has had ANY reaction to a vaccine should not have any vaccines again! It would be like someone who finds they are allergic to bees getting a wasp to sting them on purpose, you're just asking for a harmful reaction to reoccur. This is in the WSAVA guidelines for vaccinations, and vets should know this. However, we receive our reminder every year to revaccinate; it's a good job WE do the research or we'd have no idea! If you want any information about vaccinations and alternatives, feel free to message me and I can give you a lot of resources to look at. We don't vaccinate, and we've done a lot of research and dealt with all the weighing things up and uncertainties etc! Catherine O'Driscoll really knows what she's talking about, reading through information here - chchealth.weebly.com/vaccine-risks.html - is an excellent start on the road to knowledge!
