Hi,
This is my first visit to the site and I wonder if you could help me.
We adopted last a year a kitten from a rescue who is a lovely little fella. He is a indoor cat as we have no access to outdoors as we live in a first floor flat. He is now seven months old and has been with us three months. We are thinking about having another rescue kitten who would be three months younger than the one we have and a female. What is the best way to introduce them, and to get them to become friends and playmates.
Any help/ ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

First things first....is your boy neutered? Very important if you are going to introduce another cat, especially a female, into the household My little girl Lily came into season for the first time at the age of just 5 months and 1 week!!! The last thing you want is kittens from a virtual baby herself You shouldn't really have a problem with introducing kittens together but just in case your boy is a bit defensive of his territory I would keep the new kitten in your bedroom/spare room etc for the first few days with her litter tray & food bowls etc. Both cats can then get to know each other's scent underneath the closed door in a safe manner without one chasing the other and creating a negative feeling right from the start. I would feed the cats either side of the closed door so they build up a happy association of each other's scent and food and then feed them with the door open after a few days (but stay close to supervise) and I'm sure they'll be ok after that....especially as they're just youngsters themselves To be honest I doubt you'll have any problems....I've always found boys to be absolute softies who are so laid back about everything I had Chilli who was around 14 months old when we brought Lily home at 11 weeks and Chilli wasn't even bothered about this new kitten invading her home. It was Lily who was the one who hissed and spat....probably because Chilli was 3 x her size! They are now the best of friends and play together and sleep together and having the two of them together truly is the best thing we ever did I'm sure your two will be the best of friends before you know it (and THAT is when you have to lock up valuables and breakables as the little horrors play and chase each other around )

Welcome to the forum. I'm Jenny and I have 7 cats, 6 of which are indoor cats and have had my share of introducing kittens. Good advice from gillycat. When I introduced my second cat Kiba-Khan to Bramble, poor Bramble was quite put out and has never really taken to him or any other cats that I have - she was only 8 weeks older than Kiba-Khan but she has never wanted to play with him when they were kittens - I think it's the difference in their personalities, Bramble was a feral kitten and was, and still is, timid. Kiba-Khan was a very confident kitten and is now a bossy cat! 2 years later when I introduced Kai Ruki, Kiba-Khan really hated him for ages. Then I adopted a young pregnant cat and kept 2 of her kittens and they were all accepted fairly quickly. Toffee, my last adopted cat was 2 when he appeared - he likes all of my cats but only has contact with them with him outside of their cat pen.
I think you just have to see how it goes. Have you a name for the new one yet? Any photos of them both?

Hi,
Thanks for the quick replies, my little fella has been neutered and the new kitty has also been spayed. Both are CPL kittens. The little is a character and when I work out how to do it will add his pic as he is a black kitty with a smudge of white on his chest. cute and adorable.

Welcome to the forum lisamthorpe, hope you enjoy it here, if you want any help don't hesitate to ask. By the way there is a help/faq index yourpetforums.co.uk/post/13410/threadwith links to tips on posting pictures. I'm Toni with 4 rescue cats aged 4 to 14. I've only introduced adult cats together (with varying success) so can't really advise on kittens bu the advice others have given looks good
