Hello! I'm sure this has been covered a lot on this forum (a lot of forums are really touchy about that), so sorry if this is a repeat post.
I'm wanting to change my two adult cats onto the raw diet. The breeders I got my puppy from have a raw pet food company and gave us two free boxes of pre-mixed cat meat. So no worries on that front. The cats have been having a hard time recently, they seem to be sick all the time no matter what I feed them. It took ages to find the right food for them and now they've started getting sick on it! I've spoken to the vet and he just recommends feeding dry food (which makes Carlotta extremely sick). I'm hoping that raw food will be the answer, as I'm getting really worried about the constant vomiting, but it is definitely due to the food they are eating and not another medical reason.
Mieze is overweight at 5kg (smallish cat, should be 3kg I think), Carlotta is only 2kg but very small, she's not skinny at all though. They both have a paunch thing on their bellies which I know can be natural, but it makes them look pretty tubby. Mieze has been on a diet since we git her and initially lost loads but seems to have got stuck at her current weight despite the diet and a lot of exercise.
Mieze has caught and eaten prey before apparently and I'm confident she'll manage to go over to the raw diet easy, but Carlotta is very picky and will refuse to eat stuff she doesn't like the look of. What is the best way to put them on the raw diet, mixing some in with their current food and hoping they eat it, or making them go cold turkey (ha!) and just giving them only the raw? Also how much should a cat get based on their weight? Is there anything else I should know?
I've tried to add all the information I can think of that will be relevant... They both eat wee cartons of wet food, Sheba I think which had the highest meat content in our supermarket. They don't get any treats or dry food at all as Mieze is too fat and Carlotta refuses to eat them. Mieze is sick on the cat food with sauce or gravy and the pate seems to make Carlotta sick. They are totally house cats, but get looooads of exercise chasing each other around and jumping on things etc. They are surprisingly active for house cats. Mieze also has quite a lot of hair balls. Carlotta only has one layer of fur and I've never seen any hair balls from her).
The cat raw food I have is in small pieces, so I imagine that will make starting them on it a bit easier.
Anyway thanks in advance for any answers!
