I have entered Lotty in a Parson Russell Terrier Club show later this month, seeing that some of you already do some showing wondered if you're willing to share some experiences and tips.
Have been told about the Ringcraft training, but they appear to be few and far between in Gloucestershire.

I don't show myself other than at fun dog shows which aren't strict rules of course but I still always have my boys looking there best, my Westie in particular as he is usually the star each year! . But I am hoping to start showing properly with the YKC with my Westie, Charlie Boy and I do know a few tips, but still doing research, etc, etc. You need to have your dog looking the absolute BEST she can! This includes grooming every day, training and maintaining the healthy coat, eyes, ears, teeth, etc. Keeping claws short (but not too short). For a Parson Russell Terrier, I believe you can hand strip the coat occassionally (just on the dead hair of the coat). You can watch videos on YouTube which show exactly what to do! Also for clipping the claws if you don't already know. Your pretty girl needs to be on her bestest behaviour around the strang surroundings, new dogs, new smells and of course lots of strangers. If it isn't a fun show, then you would probably need a particular rope lead for showing. You can buy them on amazon for a decent price or ebay. Hope this helps a bit! Good luck! Any advice for me too, then get posting because I am new to all this grooming, etc! Only just started (well for serious, other than that I have always groomed my Westie and Cocker Spaniel at least 3 times a week . I now groom my Westie every day, my Cocker lives with my nanna now as he is actually her dog! ).

I don't show but my boss' do so I know a little bit The dog must be over 6 months of age to compete and be in the appropriate class. Ring craft is important as it gets your dog used to being handled by a stranger/judge and it also gives them practise of standing properly on a table and getting the correct walk around the ring. Also gets used to handler working with the dog Sometimes you have to travel for a class but I'm surprised there's few there, isn't Bath Champ show in Glousteshire? I went last year and vaguely remember a sign for Glousteshire but I may be mistaken! Also AL is right about grooming. She'll need to be groomed to her breed standard which for a Parsons would be stripped so looking for a good groomer is a must. Does your breeder show? She may be able to point you in the right direction. A lot of show people groom their own dogs as sometimes good groomers can be hard to find, that's something you'd have to learn though. Good luck with your show though if anything else pops into my head I'll add more

i know a bit about pedigree showing
rule 1: dog snadwhich, always have the dog in the middle of you and the judge, so the judge always has there eye on the dog, not the person who is walking infront of the dog.
Rule 2: the dog must walk at a nice even pace, trot if you are horsey not canter or walk trot at a nice even pace, some dogs will tell you the riht pace as ther tail will go up when you find the right pace.
Rule 3:Have the lead in one hand and do not loop it round your wrist, if you have to turn you will have to hcange which hand the lead is in.

Get yourself a nice show lead, and armbands are useful for numbers rather than show clip holders. Make sure you know how to show the judge his teeth and keep yourself out of the way whilst the judge is going over the dog.

Show leads, of course! Show leads differ immensely and it's all down to preference. Some are plain like a rope or leather one which are nice Some have lots of decoration on which I think is a bit of overkill and takes a bit of the attention away from the dog. A nice plain rolled leather one would be my choice. I think they'd suit a Parson's too

Many thanks for the tips, has given me food for thought. I have emailed my breeder advising we are going to the show, but not heard from her yet.

You're welcome longhope! Let us know what happens, also, I wouldn't mind hearing more advice that you get as I find it very interesting! I agree with Charlotte and I also think a nice leather show lead would very much suit a Parson, but like I said in my earlier post, you can purchase them from amazon and/or ebay for a fairly decent price!
