Hi
We have a 10 month old Toyger kitten, that seems to me to be in a rebel phase or some sort of protest.
He lives we Maggie our 4 years old british blue, they tolerate themselves very well.
2 different feeding stations in the house, plenty of toys, hiding places, beds, scratching poles...and 2 litter trays they he picked one for the urine and the other for the faeces.
Nothing seems wrong from the above...till he decides that he should pee in the lounge's puff:
a) after being in the litter tray doing his poo b) in the morning when we are about to have breakfast c)in the evening when we arrive d) over the weekend and if we had friends at home.
Then...just as fast as it came...he stops doing it. it lasts a few weeks, then he stops (last time was in September).
We play a lot and he has lots of attention...so I'm puzzled about this behaviour and how to stop it!
Please...help!!!

Welcome to the forum flopes. One thing I can suggest is an extra litter tray, the recommended usual ratio is 1 per cat + 1. Weeing or spraying is often a sign of stress or illness. I assume you have spoken to your vet about it so ruled out illness. You mention it happens when you've visitors now that could be stressful to your kitten so might point in that direction. It could also be territory marking, you say the 2 cats get on OK but cats are quite good at hiding their emotions. b) to c) could be his way of trying attract your attention over Maggie, when you are otherwise engaged. One thing is to make sure any areas that are wee'd on are fully cleaned with a stain & odour remover or distilled vinegar (clear not brown) as cats will wee at places they've done so before as the scent is familiar. We have 4 cats the addition of the 4th really altered the balance as it turns out that the other 3 only really tolerated each other before. All 4 cats can go out although only 3 do but the 4th cat only really does when its fair weather. She is quite a possessive cat, a predatory player & jealous of one of the others in particular. She also came from a multi cat household & was used to playing but our cats don't play with each other. She started marking places, especially the other cats' toys. This stopped during last summer but we've had the odd incident this autumn. So sounds like she's objecting to the bad weather. We've eased part of it by covering the beds with PVC material under washable bedspreads so we don't have major launderette issues & that does seem to have helped a bit - maybe she doesn't like the feel of that combination! I'm not an expert by any means & there may well be others here who can provide more help. Let us know how you get on.

Thank you!!
Its not spraying.... Its definitely a wee.
Yes, I've been cleaning with a proper satin and odour remover for pets, haven't tried the distilled vinegar. Its on;y in that particular puff..
I just find a bit intriguing...he just decides to stop...at some point, for a few months, till something triggers it again.
Maggie is a "princess" she's...above the whole world. while Brucie is a very attention seeking kitty, he needs to be on top of you, sleep next to you, being in the toilet with you..etc..etc. Maggie comes to us...when she wants.
Doesn't look like he's "fighting" for attention regarding Maggie...but.. I'm at lost right now.
Tried the 3rd litter tray...did not work....
We are going on holidays next week, and they will be at home, with our catsitter visiting daily...
Miss them already.

flopes, I spoke to a friend who has a Bengal which I believe is similar to a Toyger. She emailed me with this, don't know if it applies but having seen the link you gave then perhaps it does. Not sure it helps but may give an explanation. Her Bengal has a tendency to spray indoors - a territory marking or form of objection to something (she has a few other cats), especially in winter when he doesn't go out as much.

Do you mean a pouffe?
A sort of soft chair/stool/cushion?
Anyway, about cats weeing - we had a mad cat called Fifi who died in June 2012; she had a weeing problem which is why she and her brother were passed from pillar to post, kept outside in people's yards, and then ended up with us.
We tried everything to stop her weeing in the living room - but couldn't. So in the end we decided to go with the flow (pardon the pun) and accommodate her behaviour by putting down plastic sheeting in the sides of the living room with newspapers on top (changed every day); we stopped the cats from going upstairs too (which stopped her weeing in the hall). I see this as something like tidal defences - you will never stop such a cat's behaviour, but you can roll with the waves and thus minimise damage and smells.
We tried every single thing recommended - saucers of vinegar or Dettol put down (no difference); orange peel in the places she went (worked for that place - but she just went a bit further along!).
I would say try orange peel on the pouffe!
Alternatively, move the pouffe to another room.
I hope it goes well. Sadly, many people get rid of cats who wee like this or even have them put down. I never could, but then I'm not particularly house proud and we have an old carpet and second hand sofas too!

tonib ... many thanks!!! Very useful! It is that sort if bean bag indeed. That explains a lot!
catcalleddog, Yeap...that kind of thing. Ohhhh...I didn't know about the orange peel!! I shall try that. No way I get id of my little boy!! I've put some absorbing sheets (for incontinent people), but I'll get the orang peel as see what happens. Otherwise...might be the end of the road to that bean bag / pouffe...
Many thanks!!!!!!

flopes, try some PVC material over the pouffe (once well cleaned) at least if your kitten does wee on it then its easily cleaned - the absorbent pads might just encourage him to use them! The material isn't expensive & there are some reasonable patterns around - its the sort of stuff that is used to cover dining tables mainly back in the 50s/60s. I got mine from Dunelm Mill
