I'm so sorry to hear about your kitty, Bextull some part of me hopes she returns and can pass away peacefully, but if she went away to die she probably did it quietly anyway. She seems like one of those cats you love for their spirit. Like, my cat was the grumpiest sh*t in the universe but we loved her BECAUSE she was grumpy. RIP Kitty

Yeah, it was definitely her spirit!!! I'd love another cat, and a local rescue(and overflowing, overworked one at that) currently has a litter of Kittens up for adoption but do you think its too soon? I'd hate for us to get one (indoor this time) and then for the old girl to return because she is not a lover of her fellow kind and certainly wouldn't appriciate it. Obviously I'll have to have a chat with the family and it wouldn't be for another week at least before we did anything that drastic.

Well I'd talk to your family and see what they think. I don't know how long you leave it because if you're pretty sure she passed away, and it certainly sounds like she was at least on her way out then you can't wait forever thinking she might come back any day. What was the longest she's ever been away? I'd probably leave it til it's been a couple of weeks but maybe our catty friends can share some insight

When she was 4 or 5 she left for 8 weeks and then returned.
When she was 7 or 8 she left for 3 weeks and returned.
But she was younger and much stronger and fitter on both previous ocasions. Now she is basically, in every manner of the word, skin and bone. :-(
We'll probably leave it until after my exams (2 weeks time). That gives plenty of time for Kitty to return, if she can.

I'm sorry you haven't seen Kitty for 5 days. Is there anywhere you could look nearby where she might have gone to hide away (bushes, sheds etc.). Whatever you find would help you know one way or another. Do any neighbours know anything about her?

We searched our garden and I've been on the lookout for her on walks with Oscar in the fields. Its unlikely she went over any fences as she couldnt do so here without difficulty and I've looked in most other possible places. The neighours do know we own a black cat and would tell us if she had died near them but if she was just wandering they wouldnt and if she was hanging about they would probably shoo her away. (She wasnt visibly skinny as her fur covered her up so they probably wouldnt be able to tell if she was in bad shape) Maybe she does have a 2nd home though and maybe they are caring for her???

I hope she comes back to you soon and is ok. May be she's found a little old lady to cuddle up to for a few days?? That's were a neighbors cat goes when she can't find him. He lets himself in her bedroom window and sleeps on her bed, has some food then goes home.
