Thinking about treating the house for fleas, as I found a flea on Pepper last night and as she has been very itchy lately, I'm wondering if we have a slight infestation (very slight as there certainly aren't loads of fleas jumping about). The main problem is that we have a very large fish tank in the living room, so I'm struggling to find a safe household spray to use (I'm going to hopefully get some flea treatment for Pepper from the vets tomorrow or a prescription to get something online). I've looked at a few pesticide free sprays online, but reviews are vey mixed so I was wondering if anyone on here has any recommendations? So far I'm leaning towards this one: www.vetuk.co.uk/flea-treatments-household-flea-sprays-c-3_419/flee-pesticide-free-household-flea-spray-400ml-p-8286 Anyone used that before? I was looking at Indorex, as I know that has very good reviews, but as it's insecticidal, I'd rather see if there was an alternative.

When we had a fish tank years ago we used to put a dust sheet over it for a few hours after spraying. Can't remember losing any fish through using the spray but i was quite young.

Ditto, I used to spray and we had a fish tank, never lost any fish but we did keep the spraying in that room to a minimum and spray low down rather than let it aerosol too high up. We also closed the door, put a cover along the crack at the bottom and opened the window in that room so that the fumes from the rest of the house didn't come in. Covering the tank seems like a very sensible idea. Hope you find something you are comfortable with using.

Ooh I forgot about this thread! Thanks bails and ginge3. I ended up going for the Flee spray, but we haven't sprayed it yet. I think it's going to be done tomorrow as they're getting flea tablets too.

Bit late of a reply but you only need to spray the perimeter of the room and on the furniture if you wish! Remember that it is flea season! Charlie had fleas the other week and so did Kitty-Aslan, not mega, found about five fleas from both of them. We treated them, sprayed the house etc but Charles is due his hair cut on the 28th of December so hopefully once he has all his thick fur off he will definitely not have them. He hasn't been itching or anything since been treated but I am hoping he doesn't have them (I keep checking him over and the others too and can't see anything) and a groomer notices because that would feel very embarrassing and I would feel like a bad owner

Well, we're spraying today I think. The carpet has just been cleaned this morning, so once it's dry, I'll spray and then they're getting their tablets with tea tonight. I'm not sure how much we'll spray as there's only really the living room that should be a problem but I might spray upstairs too, just in case. I'm going to do their beds and soft toys etc. too as the spray is apparently safe for this.

I'd go with the dust sheet as well I think, if in that situation. On a side note, I didn't know you had fish! What kind? Share some photos

Haha SarahHound! We don't have many left. We've got angel fish and a couple of catfish at the minute. The tank really needs cleaning and restocking lol. There's no colour in it now. I'll try and get some photos later on. They're technically my brother's fish, but he's moved out and we're stuck with the fish lol.

I'm a big advocate of flea spraying. If you are only using a spot-on then you are only tackling the small amount of fleas on your pet. Regarding fish tanks - I'd cover the lid, switch the pump off (to avoid sucking in air. Within a few hours the particles will have settled. Indorex is excellent because it lasts for a year. This is an old list showing the vast array of flea treatments available! www.viovet.co.uk/p201/VioVet_Flea_Treatment_List_2013/pages.html
