Also PP, even if you get nothing at all from a show - no rosette, no certificate, no praise - you've just stood out there and shown people what a lovely dog you have, and how proud you are of him. If you throw your toys out of your pram then you might as well as not joined in in the first place. If your calm and collected about not getting a place, people will still be able to see you and Barley as best friends, than if you get terribly upset about it, then you and Barley will both share a bad atmosphere instead of a pleasant one where your proud of you both for trying. It's normal to be disappointed if you don't get a place, but there is such thing as a good looser and a bad looser.
It's normal I feel disappointed and a little nerve wrecked before entering a ring though, it's just a case of being mature about it and showing how proud you really are to be Barley's owner.

I'm sure a lot of pedigree dog showers will agree that a lot of the time showing is politics. Couldn't agree more...it really is annoying when the Judge puts his/her friend up, regardless of the dog.

My boss showed at Crufts this year. There were over 20 dogs in the limit class and every placing was a judge...

The dogs were not judged on health at all, we were told in the collecting ring that the dogs would be runned up and down and the overall health of the dog looked at ( teeth, eyes, coat, ears) but that did not happen because they were running late, as the prdigree were more important, but if they had not of run it then there would have been a massive upheaval, i think it would have been better if they had not run it in the main ring and judged it properly in a smaller ring.

Well the dogs still should have been in good health. I apologise, I know little about showing. And maybe its something you should suggest. The point of there not being a standard still stands though. With cross breeds you're looking at the judges preference.
I personally would pick a dog more like Barley rather than a 'designer cross breed'. Because I think he's a more interesting cross and is different.

barley is very unusual and we dont know his heritage and beckys owner say 'becky is a mongrel from mongrel from mongrel' she does not know that becky could be a first cross, barley is a true mongrel, yes he has some pyrnean and some sort of retriever in him but there were over 70 dogs on the farm where he came from and all of them mongrels so he is a real mongrel from mongrel from mongrel from mongrel.

I'm sure most of us know Barley is unusual and special, remember not to take Becky's win away from her, she did well.

Well Becky's owner doesn't know her heritage either. Just because there were over 70 dogs where you got him from does not mean that he is a 'true mongrel' anymore than Becky is. Barley did not win, get over it, its supposed to be a bit of fun. Becky was just as deserving of the win as Barley was

Remember that the other finalists that didn't win would also be disappointed.

I think it is unfair and immature to take away Becky's owner's pride of their winning away from them PP. Barley and yourself done very well, as did all of the other finalists and Becky too. Most of the dogs in Scrufts would have been TRUE mongrels. Barley is a true mongrel as you say, you know him better than anyone else! But think about it, most 'older' people do prefer smaller dogs than big, fluffy bears like your beautiful boy! But remember, you were lucky enough to take that dog home, weren't you? You tried and so did Barley, he was so well-behaved, why are you feeling negative about that? Yes, I know you may feel embarrassed and maybe humiliated that you didn't win, but hey, you got to the FINAL of crufts girl? With a cross-breed too! Not many people get that far!! Well blooming done! You just have to think about everything that you and Barley have succeeded and then just forget about what didn't do so well! Like they say, 'don't look back leave it all on the track' ! You're doing well so keep it up!

Also, never forget that Barley isn't just your show dog, he is your bestest, most trustworthy and beautiful friend! I think the shows are just taking over your head a little! No offence But still, don't give up! You're just over-thinking things I think.

Actually Becky owner does know she is a mongrel of mongrels as she had a DNA test done (before scrufts final) and they had to go back several levels to identify any particular breed. She is no straightforward cross. Here's just one of the newspaper articles which indicates this www.u.tv/news/Belfast-mongrel-wins-prize-at-Crufts/d455c033-8686-454a-baac-f423a1f5793fYou have seen Barleys mum and dad which you know have pyrenean and retriever in them. You therefore know Barley is a pyrenean / retriever / cross breed.

we dont know who his dad is, we know who his mum is if the person was telling the truth as at the time the dog she said was his mum had got another litter of 8 week old pups. there were over 70 dogs on the farm where he came from ranging from jack russel terriers, shar-peis, golden retrievers, irish water spaniels, pyrnean mountain dogs, newfoundlands and lots of other mongrels

Well, Puppypal, after all of this - how do you feel about showing Barley again? Do hope you've had some encouragement.

Sorry if I have misunderstood!! You always described him as a Pyrenean mountain dog and retriever cross on the old forum and that's how he was described in all the articles that you posted about on the old forum pre scrufts!!
