Yeah, i've gone through the hard task of finding a vet that deals with exotics including hedgehogs, it's an hour drive away but in future if shadow were to get poorly i'd want someone who knows what they're doing. The vet I took sonic to the first time said he had an infection and the antibiotics worked but the second time it was something much worse. Do you know if she could have had a hibernation attempt? They can be really bad. Sonic had 2 but luckily we got to him in time for the first one but i think the second one was too much for him. Sorry to be dense here aston but why is hibernation bad for them?

I'm not 100% sure. I think it's because they can't fatten themselves up efficiently to survive hibernation. Their bodies temperature drops drastically and their heart beats slow right down and their bodies immune system doesn't work as efficiently either. So if an APH does try to hibernate it should always be checked out because even though Sonic hadn't been hibernating that long (a couple of hours) he still got an infection in that short time.

Yeah it is hard to find one, I don't think many vets know about them around here :/. I'm going to try and look for the closest one though in case Harley needs to go for any reason. Aww sorry to hear that they didn't work. I don't think she was trying to hibernate we took her out you see and gave her a bath so the warmth would of helped with that, and she had her heat mat on. But she also kept lying flat out like she was too hot which was confusing. Hibernation is bad for them yeah they can't store up enough body fat to last through it and they are more likely to hibernate if they are cold. Luckily Harley has been okay so far but I leave his heat mat on all the time. However I get a bit worried when his cage temperature says 20 degrees..I think he's okay because his bed must be warmer than that, but I still keep checking on him and if he huffs at me I know he's okay.
