Hello all, wanted to ask you for advice and where you think we might stand if it came to it.
Walking in the wood we always walk the dogs in this morning, the Woodland Trust volunteers approached us in a large group carrying tools and wearing helmets. Milo ran up to them and barked at them, scared, remaining around a couple of yards away from them. We called him away and he came back instantly, and we secured him straight away. He pulled towards them but at first, stopped barking, until two of the guys approached and told us he should be kept on a lead. At first we tried to calmly tell them he is scared of them and their tools they were carrying, but we got the retort "that's a load of STOP SWEARING." The argument escalated, and because they had come quite close to us Milo started making noise (mostly choking on his collar) which obviously fuelled their annoyance. The guys ended up behaving and talking to us in a very rude, threatening manner which really shook the both of us up.
Anyway, the argument ended when the guy said he would report Milo if he ever came up to him again, under DDA section 3.
My question is - he came back IMMEDIATELY when called and allowed himself to be contained, when the guys came up to US to argue and then threatened us. Where do we stand if he really does report Milo?
It's not fair, we were yelled at and told we were irresponsible owners, and told over and over to "go read the Dangerous Dogs Act." The guy made out that he was threatened "oh these teeth coming at me" but HE came right up to Milo and stood within a few feet away to argue in our faces. They have a bit of a reputation with other dog owners in the area, because, I imagine, Milo probably isn't the only dog to be scared of a large group of men carrying huge scary objects, and they've obviously made comments to people before. We told those guys over and over that he was scared, and they continued to stand and argue in his (and our) face(s.)
With hindsight we both know it probably would have been best to walk away, but in the situation we were upset and defending Milo.
