Hey guys, Isis is around the age where she is likely to come into her first season. She has been getting very affectionate towards me (which is unusual as my boyfriend normally receives all her love and attention). She's also very restless, even after walks and seems to be hot and bothered and increased the amount of water shes drinking. She doesn't have any other sign that I can see but then i'm not 100% sure what all the signs are.
Yesterday she urinated over the house 5 times which is really unusual as she has been house-trained for a couple of months now. Is this a sign that she is coming into season? Like I say I can't see any other signs like the swollen vulva or any bleeding. I've never seen/experienced a female dog coming into heat so I'm not entirely sure if this is what it is.

I have found out that when a bitch comes into season/heat, she will become more excitable and flirtatious and she will leave 'little messages' for her prospective suitors by frequently urinating when she is out and about. Increasing levels of oestrogen will also occur if the bitch is in season, and this is about the period when she will allow herself to be mounted. Remember than when everything appears to have settled down externally, there are still hormonal changes taking place internally. This stage is referred to as dioestrus when progesterone is still being released from the corpus luteum. Dioestrus is the time that a small percentage of bitches suffer false pregnancy due to the high level of progesterone.

I have never experienced excess drinking and urinating in the house when my bitches were coming into season. So if Isis were my bitch, I would take a sample of her urine to the vets first.

Well Isis is around the right age for her first season (bless her) shes only a baby and seems too young but that's nature for you.
When my past dog came or was coming into season she used to hump mitzi and when she had a wee she would dribble quite a bit a times, the only thing you can do is keep an eye on her, you could ring your vets and ask for their advice though.

How old is Isis now?
I have also not experienced excess drinking or accidents in the house when my girls were coming into season. Dogs dont have total control over their bladders for 6 months so accidents can occur even when they seem 100% house trained. I think I would want to eliminate that it is not urinary infection.
Generally the first thing that happens is males start giving the girls undue attention (and this is before any swelling or messing). The girls really do not want this attention one bit (more likely to tell the male where to go!!), after all their hormones at this point are not telling them to get together (so to speak)!! My girls always want to be outside in the garden before they started.
