So I am going on this 5 day agility competition in Scunthorpe and have no idea how well or badly we'll do. We usually only do 1 day comps and last time didn't have one clear round ! My agility trainer is a judge up there too so we should be fine. As this is our first 5 day comp I would appreciate any tips. We have a slight problem in the ring of Tommy randomly running off! I can get him back but it takes a while! It is under KC rules so nothing allowed in the ring.

Wind him up first. Don't know about you, but mine is obsessed with her 'tuggy' lead. So I wind her up with that first, then some really smelly chicken/cheese. I make sure the scent is on my hands, but no actual food in the ring. She's generally pretty focused on me though during runs which is good

Don't stop talking to him throughout the WHOLE run!! I do this for my Westie as he does the same sometimes and staying as excited and full of energy as you can helps too! Do what I do and pretend your training, that way we usually do well! On my last Agility show (last week-end), me and Charlie Boy actually got 5 clear round out of 8 so I was very proud of my little boy Good luck Tommy, be a good boy for your mammy/daddy!

Scoobs is the same, he gets so excited by all the dogs and people he needs help to really keep his concentration. How is Tommy once he's got going? I find that as soon as we're off Scooby's fine. Make sure you use firm commands so he knows exactly where he's going next, the moment you hesitate, he could use that as an chance to be off. I find that just standing outside the ring and telling his simple commands (things like sit, down, touch ect you just want to keep his eyes on you, don't give him the chance to look at other things), then get him doing some sit and waits while you walk a short distance away, then call him to you and give lots of praise. Try getting him use to having distractions by taking him somewhere new or exciting and getting him to concentrate on you so he knows that he must listen to you no matter how exciting everything else is. HTH! Also, is this a KC show or just KC rules? If you aren't already I would say sign up to UKA, they are so friendly We hopefully have one this easter too (our first EVER!), on Monday, my trainer says if her fiance isn't going then the will be room for me and Scoobs in the van - fingers crossed he doesn't want to go!

Results!!! out of 20 runs we had 5 firsts, 2 clears out of time, 1 faults and time faults, and 12 Eliminated's. we managed to get round all the courses apart from the first four when he had to look at everything!
