Hello to everyone on the forum. I own a big bundle of ginger rescue dog who has turned my life, and most of my house upside down! He is a joy to be around but has had a troubled background which we are working though with the help of a great dog trainer in our area. I am also at Uni and I am looking into the numbers of dog on dog attacks for one of my assignments. As this type of "crime" is not actually recorded as a crime I am finding it very hard to get any figures on the number of people who have had their dog attacked. Can any of you lovely forum people help me out? I would like to know 1. Has you dog every be attacked by another dog? 2. Has you dog ever been injured by another dog? 3. What type of injury did you dog receive and where on your dog was hurt? 4. Did the injuries require veterinary treatment? 5. How much did the treatment cost? I would love to hear back from as many people as possible as I think this appears to be a much bigger problem than it appears but there just don't seems to be any figures kept. Look forward to hearing from you Helen and Big Dog

Hi Helen and welcome to the forum. I wish you luck with your big bundle of ginger bless him, he sounds a joy ? Sorry can't help you with your assignment, Beau has been very lucky, but then if he were to be attacked ( he isn't off lead when we are out ) then they would have to deal with my leg first

What type of injury did you dog receive and where on your dog was hurt? - Only hair pulled out of scruff of neck. 4. Did the injuries require veterinary treatment? - N/A 5. How much did the treatment cost? - N/A

Thank you scallywag and Gladys for the replies, knowing a dog has never been attacked is just as useful as I have something to compare with then, and Gladys I am pleased your dog was not seriously hurt. Thanks for the replies both Helen

Quick Synopsys, ex convicted drug dealers personal weapon dog. Had REALLY bad dog issues, now much, much better thanks to aforementioned training. Thinks he is a tiny lap dog but is 35kg! Is loved to bits and very, very, happy bouncy and generally just a bit nuts He has been with us for nearly 2 years since our beloved staffie Pudding died from bone cancer. To be fair to Big Dog, he rocks He has been attacked in the past which is partly where the basis for my assignment came from. It seems to be lots of people have had their dogs attacked but it is just not recorded anywhere!

Hi, welcome to the forum.
Earl: 1. In a minor way, yes. 2. Not that I was completely sure of. 3. Wasn't hurt, however, once I didn't know if another dog had caught his lip after 'going for him'. 4. No. 5. Didn't.
Hope my response is valued.

I can only really help by saying that neither of my boys have been attacked - they've been very lucky! I know that Pawsforthought has had a couple of issues though so hopefully she can help out.

Welcome to the forum Helen, just wanted to wish you well with your assignment. Can't help as only have cats You've done well in taking on Big Dog and putting the effort into his behaviour improvement. What a sad way for the the dog to have come into your possession though but interesting to hear what happens to dogs in that situation. Besides the assignment, I hope you enjoy the forum.

Hi Tonib, We got him via The Dogs Trust, and I found them wonderful to deal with. We are lucky and work from home so are a bit more able to put the effort in and he had been in kennels for some time and was proving hard to re-home so we thought we were up for the challenge! He was a right handful to start with and spent the first three months growling at me whenever I tried to get him to do anything but with support from the dog behaviourist we have got that issue well and truly sorted. He has been with us just shy of two years and is a joy to have around So many people have told me about dog injuries they have received I just thought I would try and document it a bit more thoroughly for my project so I am contacting local vets and dog wardens too so I can try and build up a better picture. The more responses I get from everyone the better but I am pleased your cats are safe and sound and so far the forum seems a very friendly place to be
