Ruby is having a bit of trouble going to the loo lately, and she keeps shuffling her bum on the floor ( didn't know any other way to put that!) her poo is sometimes slimed, like mucus. She has been in and out of kennels lately, so maybe she is a bit stressed. Before we contact the vets we ate going to get her back into a routine having a walk every morning and most nights. Im just hoping its not polyps or anything serious, she only recently had her anal glands done.

I was going to suggest glands. How recent where they last done? If her poo's have been runny they wouldn't have been emptying. I think someone said before that the mucus could be the shedding of the colon wall (but is normal). Hopefully whoever said it will be along to confirm!
If she has been in and out of kennels then it very well could be stress. How old is she? Has she been in kennels before?

Definitely sounds like glands to me. If there's a problem they can fill again quite quickly, so might be best to get it checked out anyway.

Did the kennels keep her on the same food as you give her? if not it's possible it's a reaction to this.

I am sorry to hear Ruby is having a rough time. I agree with the other posts made though The shuffling her bum is often linked to gland issues but could be worm related too so may be worth checking last time they were wormed. If she has been in and out of kennels as the others have said has there been changes in food as this could explain all you have described? Changes of food take time to adjust to so a number of changes in a short period of time would explain going soft and maybe why her glands may have played up too. It may possibly have been me saying about shedding of the colon!! I have put that as a possibility before on other posts!!

If Ruby has had runny poop or not gone like she normally would then the anal glands could need emptying again. Also the mucus around poo is normal as long as it doesn't happen all the time, it's just the body shedding the old lining. But if it carries on then a trip to the vets is best. If her routine has been changed recently then that might explain it all and like you say just start her normal routine again and hopefully her body will get back on track. If she is still having problems or starts acting ill etc then off to the vets with her but yOu could add grated carrot to her food for fibre, which should help empty the glands as the poo should be firmer.

Like Charlotte stated it sounds to me like her anal glands may need emptying. When Phoebe needed her glands emptying she always shuffled her bum across the carpet. maybe worth a trip to the vets.

Caz, it was you that came to mind when I thought about it. But I wasn't 100% and didn't want to offend anyone if it was someone else

Sounds like an anal gland problem to me. Does the slime of her faeces look like a single layer? What weather have you been having? Too much sun can cause this in dog's stools, Earl had this. Is she releasing her stools frequently? Does she have easy access to a private spot outdoors after meals?
Earl always shuffles his bum when his anal glands need releasing. Some dogs can do it themselves but others need special emptying by a vet, like Earl. Even if the anal glands have just filled up a small bit it could be causing her discomfort if she has a problem.

Her anal glands were only done recently, although she needs them doing a lot. I think it was about of stress from kennels, she's 10 now and goes to kennels about twice a year, but lately she's been in more next time we to away, we are looking for a house sitter, she's old and needs routine. Thanks everyone

Yeah, they will be going in for a check up soon a anyway. It's sad because you can tell she's getting old, she can't get on chairs as easy as she used to, and she sleeps more. She's going grey and can't handle big walks because of her arthritis

Aww poor baby I dread the day Jasper gets like that How old is she? We were in the Emergency Vets last night about 8pm and there was a collie x that was 18! His owners were saying that when he wasn't poorly he was like a puppy. He certainly didn't look 18!

She's going grey and can't handle big walks because of her arthritis That's how it goes when dogs get on. Unfortunately their quality of life starts decreasing. There are many articles in dog magazines explaining how to make your dog's golden days comfortable. Now you need to go on a mission to make Ruby's quality of life as good as possible in her old age. I would see if you could prevent her attempting to jump up on chairs etc. It could just do her worse.
