I have a Cornish Rex Cat. Is there any where in Cornwall where I can see the the breed? A Sanctuary? I will be visiting next fall. Thank You.

Hi and welcome!
I don't know of anywhere in the UK like that, there may be some in rescue shelters but I can't see you being allowed to visit unless you had plans to adopt.
There are sanctuaries for the Highland Wildcat in Scotland, but its a long way from Cornwall. As far as I'm aware, that's the only cat place open to the public.

Hi gg, welcome to the forum all the way from the other side of the pond - we're not fussy here where anyone comes from! I should say I'm Toni with rescue cats aged between 4 & 14, not one with the Rex coat though, all smooth short hairs. I live in the north west of England so not too familiar with cat matters in Cornwall As to seeing Cornish Rex cats its unlikely that there would be a sanctuary as they are a pedigree domestic cat, although its always possible that the odd one, like any cat, could be in a rescue centre. The Scottish Wildcat, that sarahhound mentioned, is a wild cat so hence the sanctuary to try & preserve the breed, which doesn't really apply to the Cornish Rex. However I was wondering if there are breeders of the Cornish Rex in Cornwall. I looked at the GCCF (Governing Council of Cat Fancy www.gccfcats.org/index.html & found links to one Rex Cat Club www.rexcatclub.com/index.html & the nearest breeder they have is in Somerset, not too far away from Cornwall but I don't know if they would allow visitors. Its odd that there don't seem to be any in Cornwall I know, but the Cornish Rex originated from one domestic cat in Cornwall rather than from a pool of wild/feral cats there, so it really depends who has taken on breeding that line. I have a friend who has Devon Rex cats & I note there seem to be more breeders of those but still none in Devon. If I can find out anything more then I'll post it. Good luck & I hope you enjoy your stay in Cornwall, its a lovely part of the country.

Hello GG, you could always have a look to see if there are any cats shows on locally. You could also look on the local tourist board site to see if you can get any leads into your interest in the breed www.visitcornwall.com/Rachel.
