My neighbour knows I have 2 indoor cats. Her friend found a kitten covered in mud dumped in a lay-by on Tuesday. She has called every local rescue to see if it has been reported missing and it hasn't. She is taking it to the vet tomorrow to check for a microchip. My neighbours intended to keep the kitten but the mother is finding she is allergic to it. They asked me if I could keep it but I already have 2 cats, one is very territorial and one gets stressed from time to time causing him to pee all around the house, although he is settled at the moment. My husband won't let me take on this kitten. I have gone to have a look and the kitten is very friendly and house trained. I called a lady I know in Preston who runs a rescue but she is so full and they're all kept inside her house so I am not sure she would be able to take it on.
Does anyone have any ideas where else we could try around the Preston area? Or is anyone looking for a kitten in the Lancashire area who can help?
Thanks, Mo.

Well done on your neighbour rescuing the kitten & a shame her mother is allergic. Hope the kitten is chipped. Have you tried cchecking www.animalsearchuk.co.uk/find-lost-pets/find-pets.php to see if you can find a match? As to rescues in your area there are a few:- RSPCA Preston Branch Preston Animal Centre Slack Cottage Longridge Road Ribbleton, PRESTON, LANCASHIRE PR2 6QL Tel: 01772 792553 Opening hours 12-3 daily except Tuesday. Cat Protection Preston Tel. 0845 177 0708 Facebook - www.facebook.com/PrestonCatsProtectionLancashire Cat Rescue 33 New Lane Penwortham Preston Lancashire PR1 9JH UK Tel 01772 750263 Cats in Crisis 36 Stockdale Crescent. Bamber Bridge. Preston. PR5 6NA. 01772 498053 There are more but further afield on www.catchat.org/adoption/lancs.htmlI wish I could help personally but with 4 cats & the 4th being a bit of a last straw to the group I can't take another cat. If however you find the owner or a rescue & need transport then I may well be able to assist as I'm not too far from Preston. Good luck

Whereabouts in Preston was the kitten found? If you can message me and let me know I'll put it on my FB page and see if anybody knows of someone who my have lost it. Sorry I can't take it as I already have two cats on a dog and can't afford another mouth to feed, but as tonib says, if you need any help with transport I live in Preston so can help if needs be. Let us know how you get on.

Hi I will let my neighbour know the info, so thank you for that.
The kitten was actually found in Poulton & they have called charities in that area to see if they had her listed as missing but they didn't find anything that matched. The RSPCA told her that lay-by seems to have been a popular place for dumping kittens recently.
They have wanted to keep the kitten themselves, it's just the allergy that's the problem. I've just sent them an email with the list of local charities and I've also sent a link to some wipes you can buy from Pets at Home to stop the dander coming off the fur. They may be interested in that, they're a nice family with nice children who want to look after the cat. They like to see my cats when I take them out gor walks on a harness. The lady also said she'd rather be able to rehome the kitten herself to someone locally who could maybe send her children photos as she grows up.
My husband was allergic to cats when we first got them, so was my dad & the allergies went after a few weeks.
I'll let you know when I hear tomorrow. She is taking the kitten to a vet tomorrow for a check up & to see if she is microchipped.
Thanks Mo.

Good luck. Have they registered it with animalsearchuk as they do a lost & found also linked to cats protection?

I will let them know that, I know they have called every rescue they can find. To be honest, I think it was dumped there as the RSPCA told them that lay by is a popular dumping spot for animals.
I also emailed them a link to those allergy wipes. They worked for my husband and we've had our cats 10 years now. My dad was also allergic to his at first and the symptoms went after a couple of weeks and my dad has now been living with cats continuously for 18 years.

That's dreadful that a particular lay-by should be a common spot for dumping animals - I wonder what makes it so popular.
I presume the kitten wasn't chipped.
Hope all goes well.

No, the kitten wasn't chipped, she had taken it to the vet to check that. Good news is that our neighbour has just let us know that she has found a home with her friend for the kitten and she has been called Jessie.
