Did anyone see this program? What did you think of the dog food part? I wasn't happy! They basically mentioned how cheap nasty dog foods were, so they would cost you less, but didn't mention you had to feed less with a premium brand. I commented on their Facebook page, but its gone. There's a surprise! This was my comment...
I just wanted to comment on your dog food section of the program last night. I was very dissappointed to see Bakers win the 'best food' on your program, for several reasons. While most of the dogs chose Bakers for the taste, this is because Bakers contains at least SIX e-numbers in every single box/bag and also added sugar, whereas there are no e-numbers in the brown coloured foods. If you offered a child a choice between a piece of fruit or brightly coloured sweets, which are they going to choose? The Smarties, every single time. While these are fine for a treat, parents wouldn't be happy to feed their child a meal with 6 e-numbers in for every meal, why should they feed their dog it? The other thing that I'd like to comment on. You said how much each food cost per kilo. However you forgot to mention that the better quality the food, ie. more quality ingredients, like in premium brands (although I personally would not call Iams a 'premium' brand, more mid-range), you need to feed less. A dog eating the ASDA Smart price food needs to eat more of that food, compared to a premium food. I looked at Wagg and Bakers, and both foods I'd need to feed 150g more per day than my premium food of choice. Saying those foods are cheaper is false economy, not to mention the long term health risks of dogs eating 'cereals' rather than meat every day of their lives!
