Yeah we had someone from one of the animal charities wanting us to sign up to give money. They saw Cooper in the window and commented on him. I did my usual .... His a cross, got allergies etc. Poor Cooper.

Hmm, it's all very strange. We shouldn't have to worry about people calling at our houses! Grrr. I wonder why the police are denying it though Gladys, I think if we get anyone dodgy calling here then I'll just be saying that our two are crossbreeds too. I might even say that they're elderly. I'd assume they wouldn't want elderly dogs.

I think it is a good idea acting as if the dog is ill, but at the same time, you need to think both ways because if they were pretending be RSPCA people or something and you said that the dog was ill or had allergies, etc then they could use this as a way to get the dogs off you. Eg. 'Oh, my dogs are cross-breeds and one has allergies and the other is elderly', 'well we could help with vet bills and take the dog off your hands for now?' - see what I mean? Not nagging, just making sure everyone and their poochies are safe! I didn't realize so many people were from around the Durham area on the forum actually! -

I agree Orpheous. It's a sad day when you worry about letting your dogs off lead/going out the house and leaving them in.
And idk, it seems odd if the police are denying it but there's been so many people saying they've experienced it.
And Gladys, you're fortunate that Bostons are relatively unknown to a lot of people, its a shame you have to say he's a cross (does he have allergies?)
And that's a good point AL, either way they wouldn't be getting through my door, I always look out the window to see who's there first!

I am wary now of people coming into my house (who claim to work with animals). For example, years ago Dogs Trust men came to my door offering to get us to sponsor dogs and as it was my birthday a couple of days later, I started sponsoring two dogs, but they could of been anyone, but both my parents were there and would they hell of liked to take my 2 Akitas, Cocker Spaniel, Westie and Miniature Jack Russell!

AL - They could suggest taking the dogs off our hands to help with vets bills etc. all they wanted. I wouldn't say yes, because a) they're both insured and b) I'm quite capable of looking after them even if they do have fictitious allergies!! I don't think that the RSPCA are in the habit of taking dogs off people just to help with vets bills, they only step in if the dog is being mistreated/neglected (obviously dogs handed to the RSPCA by the owners are a different story). So anyone claiming to be from the RSPCA and saying stuff like that would soon be told where to go!
Charlotte - It is indeed. I don't worry too much about letting them off lead, but I do keep a close eye on them.

charlottte - Yeah he does but not as bad as some dogs. Beef and wheat/cereals and seasonal (autumn leaf mold).
All these dodgy people and dog napping going on really is a worry.

That's what I said Orpheous, no-one would have a reason to report us because Jasper's given a top life I'm the same about letting him off, always keep a check over my shoulder and he never gets far in front of me And aww poor Cooper At least it doesn't cause him too much of a problem. And he's got a family that love him

I always feel sorry for dogs that have severe skin or health problems but then I remember that they have owners that are willing to go to the end of the earth for them which some poor pups dont have
I thought about getting a Boston before we got Buddy, I think they're dead cheeky looking dogs!

I have never seen a Boston before in real life, only images and things, they are quite rare, I see French Bulldogs now and then though! When I was younger I used to think they were the same things!! My dogs and all my animals are very well cared for and we have time for all of them! So anyone trying to take any of my animals from us would certainly be told where to go! Including our landlord - we moved house again recently to a nicer and more affordable one and we included our 2 dogs and 2 cats and 4 ferrets on the application form thing and they confirmed it but then a week after we moved in the landlord came to the house to see how we were getting on and she complained about the pets and she came up with the suggestion of getting rid of them and my mam's exact words were 'I mentioned our pets including our horses on the application form but our horses are obviously not kept in the house. If you think we are getting rid of our animals after you have confirmed the application form then you can think again because for a start you should of read the form properly then and secondly they are our family. If you want them to go then it looks like you will have an empty house again because if they go, we go'. I was so pleased! I will never forget those words to be honest!!

Charlotte - Exactly! Same for my girls! Haha, I wish Pepper would get in front of me! She's always dawdling behind. It's funny though, if someone is walking up behind us, she drops back and waits until they've gone past - she hates being followed!
