We have two street dogs whom we rescued in Jordan. We are due to travel to the UK later in the year/early next year. However, we have a problem with putting them in their crates.
Our male dog has no problems with going into his crate, in fact he loves it. The problem comes whenever someone walks close by the crate or touches it. When this happens, he goes absolutely mad. He growls, barks and attempts to attack the person touching the crate even though he can't get to them. We are unsure what to do as he will be transported to the UK in his crate which will be handled by a number of people.
Our female dog hates her crate and goes in very reluctantly. Once the door is shut, she howls, whines and has, on occasion, made her feet bleed trying to scratch her way out. She also gets very anxious and loses weight when unsettled. We are worried what state she'll be in when we get to the UK.
For both dogs, we have bought Serene-UM Calm tablets which, according to the packet, naturally calms and soothes dogs. Is this something we can give both dogs prior to travelling? What do others recommend. We have never owned a dog before, nor have we ever travelled with pets so any advice or help is appreciated. There is a lack of dog trainers here in the middle east and when you do find one, English is usually their third language making it difficult to communicate. We love our dogs and want to ensure that their travel to the UK is as calm and easy as possible, though we know it will be stressful for both us and the dogs.
Thank you!
