Hi
I have problems getting Mario into a cat carrier. He is quite a nervous cat and is 9 years old. When he was a year old we discovered he had struvite crystals and he had lots of trips to the vet with cystitis.
Now he only tends to visit the vet about twice a year but I suppose he must have memories of it. He also goes to the cattery roughly 3 times per year for a few days at a time. The cattery people look after him well and he settles in and has an outdoor pen to himself.
The problem I have is being able to get him in a carrier without being scratched badly and even worse, Mario being upset and crying.
I have tried a standard plastic carrier with the door on the front and taken the top off to get him in, I've also bought a soft carrier that looks a bit like a sports bag. That soft one is easier to get him in but he presses his head against the top trying to get out and one time he undid the zip on the door and escaped while I was driving!
I have seen these ones on ebay, but I wonder if they're easier to get him into them and do they fold down? We're short on storage space so it would need to be a fold-down one we get. We're also looking at getting him a dog-sized one so he can sit right up in it and have plenty of room. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wire-Pet-Carrier-Plastic-Coated-large-size/261114367668?_trksid=p2050601.m2372&_trkparms=aid%3D222002%26algo%3DSIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D289%26meid%3D453500778312872070%26pid%3D100085%26prg%3D1156%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26sd%3D261114367668%26clkid%3D453779128942665995&_qi=RTM1489731
We have one other cat, Rosa who he gets on very well with and getting her into a carrier isn't so difficult.
Many thanks,
Maureen
