I this on the chit chat thread, but no one replied so il post it again because I'm a little bit worried. The day before yesterday, the dogs had their kennel cough vaccinations, and as you know it can give them the sniffles etc etc. both otto and Archie had the sniffles, and Archie was really subdued. He was then sick, but not much and he was obviously unwell, because he stood with his head down and tail between his legs. Not much later on, he was sick again but only liquid came out. After he was very quiet and was trembling a lot. I wasn't sure if he was cold so I wrapped him in a hoodie and just left him to snooze which he did for about 2 hrs. I'm not sure if this Is even possible but my mum picked him up and said he felt really hot, like he had a temprature. He seems better this morning, but I want to make sure he's ok? But the main question is can kennel cough vaccinations make dogs ill?

I have heard that any vaccination can hold side effects... have you called your vet to ask them? This might put your mind at more rest than just asking for opinions

I can't help at all, only your vet will be able to answer that correctly. If you're worried about him, take him to the vet.

The vaccination does hold side effects, but I actually think I may have discovered the problem now. In the morning they all had some liver, and sometimes meat isn't that good on his tummy, chicken also makes him sick! But just for now he can eat scrambled eggs til he's fully better!

If this is the case, your dealing with side effects on top of a food problem! Hope everything gets well again

Sorry to say this is one of the reasons I don't vaccinate. It is normal though to have a reaction as its a live vaccine going into your dog. It will likely clear up after a few days, but I'd be very wary of vaccinating again if you have a dog who has already reacted.

We only vaccinate because the dogs do go in kennels at least once a year, so it's vital or else they wouldn't be allowed in. Also, when we only had Ruby, she caught kennel cough and it wasn't pretty!

Glad to hear Archie is much better. Vaccinations can make animals slightly unwell for a day or so as far as I'm aware, but I would be worried if it was severe or for longer. If he does have some food allergies/reactions that you know about I would advise not feeding anything that he might react to a few days before & after any vaccination so that you know if that if he is unwell then it is probably a reaction to the vaccination. I would also suggest mentioning it to the vet when you next visit with Archie as there may be alternatives.

I am with you on that, watching your dog with kennel cough can be seriously distressing for you and dog, with them hacking up fluid for hours on end!! It flares up every year here. I never want to see my dog suffer like that again. Can take weeks to get over and your dog should stay in until all coughing has stopped.
