By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,
Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.
Where the friends of man and woman do run,
When their time on earth is over and done.
For here, between this world and the next,
Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.
On this golden land, they wait and they play,
Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.
No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,
For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.
Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,
Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.
They romp through the grass, without even a care,
Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.
All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,
Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.
For just at that instant, their eyes have met;
Together again, both person and pet.
So they run to each other, these friends from long past,
The time of their parting is over at last.
The sadness they felt while they were apart,
Has turned into joy once more in each heart.
They embrace with a love that will last forever,
And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together

Beautiful poem. I have seen derivatives of that elsewhere-but the words and sentiments are always the same.

We lost our much loved Boxer, Oscar, on Thursday after a very traumatic few days. He had only turned 5 on the 9th July and he had epilepsy from when he was about 3, which had been controllable until the last couple of months where the seizures worsened to the point of this week becoming cluster fits and then status epilepticus. We decided the kindest option for Oscar was to be put to sleep and he is now at peace and with our other 2 dogs, Charlie and Sam, they were both labradors.
It has been such a shock and so unexpected. This is the 3rd dog I've lost since childhood, but the past 2 had health problems due to old age and were put to sleep, whilst I found the loss of Sam in 1997 (aged 10) upsetting; and charlie in 2011 (Aged 14), I am so distraught over the loss of Oscar, as are my mother, father, sister, family & friends.
I have 2 persian cats who are my world and I love them, but feel so upset about Oscar and the emptiness and painful silence in the house is horrible.
Rest in Peace Oscar
9th July 2008 - 1st August 2013

My bridge girl Breagha also suffered from cluster fits in the end, and we had to let her go too. She was older at least, although sadly I've also lost a young dog who should have had many years left, its absolutely heartbreaking. Thinking of you. Run free Oscar.

R.I.P Oscar.
I'm sorry for your loss persiankat79, I know how you feel we lost our lab Draco in September and we had some bad news on Thursday about his brother Merlin, we got told we've got a matter of weeks left with him, it is so hard, we didn't expect this news so soon after Draco.

So sorry to hear that scruffsmaz; it must be devastating to be given such awful news so soon after having to say good bye to Draco such a short time ago.
