Woke up early this morning to set off to wildlife volunteering, go to get in my car and see that the drivers side window had been totally smashed in. Confused as nothing had been taken and there was no other damage visible, I went to get my dad who came out and noticed that the brakes had been cut. We were all really confused until he went to check his beloved Land Rover. Gone. They'd cut my brakes to push my car out of the way so they could steal his. This wasn't really just a car to him, his brother had bought it and owned it before he died so there was a big emotional attachment There's not really any hope of getting it back, and there have been SO many thefts of Land Rovers all over the country recently, so it must be an organised gang or something rather than just a random targeting. This now means that we have NO usable cars (don't fancy driving around with no brakes...), so we're stuck inside, can't get any shopping and can't take the doggies on any nice walks Luckily my mum is going to take us and Finn to training tonight so he doesn't have to miss out. Thieves are so heartless, they really are the dregs of society aren't they? If anyone owns a Land Rover (particularly a Defender) or knows someone that does, please be careful and the police have advised in the news to really up the security on them because of the recent thefts. Our poor little baby

That's mutiny! I'm very sorry to hear that. The sensible option would, yes, to be stay at home. Hope Finn enjoys his training.

How awful for you both - you must have felt so sick. I hope that you can get your car repaired soon. If you feel there's no chance of getting your Dad's Landrover found, how long before the insurance pay out? or can he have a courtesy vehicle? Evil thieves!

I really don't know. My car is going into the garage tonight to be fixed, but I'm not sure how long it'll take

that's dreadful. Hope your insurance gets it sorted out soon & you can be back on the road quickly. I suspect it might be a bit longer for your dad's land rover though.
I suppose there's one good thing in this, they broke the side window so you knew something wasn't right & didn't drive the car with no brakes!!!

Oh hell! That must of been a shock Avansa. Did the dogs not bark during the night?
Apparently Landrovers are really easy to break into. Last yr a man I know had one stolen from a shoot and it had his black Lab in it! He wasn't bothered about the LR just the dog, but thankfully they dumped his dog a few miles away and a kind member of the public found and returned him. He didn't get the LR back though.
Shortly after we moved to the farm our trailer was stolen and its very unnerving, especially when they've been on your property during the night and in our case driven down a long farm track...and we never heard a thing!
Hope your dad gets his LR back.

Thank you everyone, it's really got us shaken up Like Gypsy said, it's so unnerving to think that someone was just, in my case, directly outside my bedroom window while I slept. I can't believe I didn't hear anything. I'm a reasonably light sleeper and the top window was open! The dogs usually bark at any old sound outside, so they really must have been VERY quiet while they went about it. Obviously had it all planned out with the right tools and stuff. My dad said he couldn't go to bed and sleep tonight so he's just going to sit up I feel so bad for him that it makes me even more angry at these complete heartless idiots.

This is absolutely terrible! Similar thing happened to daughters friends large Landrover type car.Their house was broken into to steal the car keys in the middle of the night, never heard a thing! Really unnerved the family to think such scumbags were actually inside their home, especially as young children were asleep in the house and could have woken up and disturbed them. They did eventually get it back, whether it was stolen and kept somewhere I can't remember without asking,as there was a spate of high value cars being stolen at that time. Fingers crossed your father gets his car back, especially as it means more than just any car to him.

Thats awful, it must really unnerve you. And to add insult to injury your insurance premiums with increase too. I definitely sound like its an organised gang and probably stealing to order. It'll probably be in a container on its way abroad tomorrow. It makes me so so angry!!!!

Makes you think about setting up one of those cctv type cameras, think they can be bought at more reasonable prices now.Or the sort of alarm they have at kennels were alarm sounds when anyone goes past certain point. Certainly makes you wonder when so much happens without people hearing any noise, especially when dogs haven't even raised the alarm.Perhaps a few dogs squeaky toys left lying around would be a good alarm, both indoors and out.Sounds daft, but they have certainly made me jump at times.
