His elbows really. Three out of four.
I think he's doing it himself but I don't know why. He hasn't got fleas and I can't find any ticks. (he 'plays' with the rabbits all the time). I haven't changed his food or my soap powder. He seems well in his self after his recent health scare. Both he and Poppy have small cuts above their right eyes, but I think this is because they insist on coming out of the woods at a spot that has barbed wire to stop the horses going in. I'm going to give it until Friday and if there is no improvement I'll take him with me when I take Sausage for his check up. (I'll ask first, not just turn up with him)
In the mean time if anyone has any suggestions..........

Do you think the heat is affecting him, maybe stressing him & he's overgrooming or just generally rubbing those areas because he's plain hot?

I think you may be right. It's been cooler here the last few days and the patches aren't getting any bigger. I still might take him tomorrow, just to make sure.

Our vet visit on Friday was cancelled because of an emergency. We are going at 5pm tonight instead. As well as the bald patches Wilf has scabs on his neck and back. He could be allergic to the Advocate. He went up to the next size last month and has barely stopped scratching since.

Poor Wilf, hope all goes well at the vets tonight. Oddly this year Roman has gone on to Advocate after he seemed to get a bald spot from the Frontline, no problems so far.

Wilf does have an allergy, but the vet doesn't know what he's allergic to. He has put him on a short course of steroids which has already stopped him constantly scratching and grooming. All of the scabs are self inflicted by vigorous scratching so are now starting to heal.
Once the situation is under control we can decide if we want to start tests to see what triggered it in the first place. It is highly unlikely to be the Advocate. It could possibly be the antibiotic injection he had when he was bitten by the rat or squirrel making his immune system weak.

Poor Wilf, at least you now have a diagnosis and he's on the way to feeling & looking better. In a way it must be a relief that the scabs aren't anything nasty. Let's hope it was just a reaction to the antibiotic as that can easily be altered in the future.

Has he become allergic to his food after having been so poorly? Sometimes food that we can tolerate when we are well doesn't agree with us after a bout of nasty illness. Try Almo Nature or one of the other low allergenic food brands.
