The above is a photo of Pepper's neck (that I struggled to take this morning). The fur around her throat where her collars lies is very pink/brown. It looks much worse when it's wet, but it's still quite bad when it's dry. I think I may have asked this before on the old forum, but does anyone know how to get rid of this discolouration? Or have any tips? I saw something online earlier about using bicarb of soda to wash the white hair, but I'm not sure if this will work. Has anyone else ever tried this? Would using apple cider vinegar help, does anyone know? Any advice would be much appreciated!

Sorry no particularly good tips I'm afraid!!! This probably is a stupid question but it isn't the dye from her collar is it? I noticed on one dog it her collar was causing a stain around her neck very similar looking to the one in Pepper's picture. Holly used to have tear staining around her eyes, we got a product from the pet shop that claimed to reduce them. Well no change that I could see from it!!! Since raw she seems to no longer have any tear staining!?! Maybe a herbal type thingy might work? No clue what you'd use though. Somewhere like Dorwest herbs probably sell a product. Good luck.

Will any of the pet shampoos work, there are no water rinsing ones, that you can apply & then brush out when dried. Like Anna, I'd say it looks like the dye from a collar, so could you also change her collar to something that doesn't stain? I'm sure the other dog owners will be able to advise on those. Mind you knowing your expertise, you've probably thought of those yourself

The above shampoo was what I was going to suggest too. I know of someone who got her Westie white again with that, worth a shot Does she need to be wearing a collar so much? I'd be worried what's in it if its done that :/

Thanks for the links gypsy and BorderTerrier. I'll give those a try. I'm pretty sure the staining isn't from her current collar as its a Dublin Dog one that doesn't hold on to water or anything. But then again, maybe it traps water between it and her fur while she swims? And if that's the issue, I don't think it'll be solved by taking her collar off more often because she obviously needs to wear it when on walks and she only swims while on walks!

I guess if the staining doesn't cause her any pain or discomfort then it can be lived with? That's up to you!

If you collar is leather, then I think of changing it for maybe a nylon weave type collar for when she on a walk that involves swimming, even though Dublin Dog collars are good one. We used to have a leather collar years ago that caused staining when wet.

I use the nylon woven ones rather than leather, as I got fed up of dis colouration from leather collars, especially if you have a dog that loves going swimming. All of my dogs, except my F.C.R. and Cocker have had a white main,so it doesn't look nice.I also like the nylon woven ones as I print home and mobile numbers in indelible ink on them, plus they are not expensive.

That's the thing cazypops and migsy. The Dublin Dog collars aren't leather ones. There's nothing on the inside of them that can leak colour. The staining is possibly from their old collars, which did have some kind of material on the inside. But they haven't worn those collars for over a year

Weird! Enzo used to have a blue nylon/fabric collar that I took off after a swim cause the time I didn't his yellow fur around his neck had a blue tinge for a few days. Their ditsy collars have never had a problem jumping about in the sea but lately bought ezy dog ones with neoprene wetsuit material on the inside so it keeps the water away from their neck.
The blue shampoo I've heard before is really good, just could take a while to clear up so rather than having to wash her too often maybe just try to wash her neck with the shampoo a few times so you don't strip her coat of all the good stuff with washing all of her.

Yeah, I'd just use it on her neck I think, because the rest of her is fine. Although the insides of her legs sometimes go a bit pink, it's not on the same scale.
