Well Riley is much better walking now although certain things still make him a little nervous but he is much better and we can enjoy a nice walk. My only problem i have when walking Riley is that he is like all puppies very excited especially if he sees someone with or without a dog in the distance heading towards us, he gets very excited as he thinks everybody will stop and fuss him, he pulls to try and get to that person and if he sees a dog he gets even more excited, tail wagging and pulling his way towards them, he is very strong. I have tried taking his attention by offering him a treat but he isn't always interested especially if he can see a dog with the owner.
Just wondering if anybody as any tips

Beau is exactly the same, I reel him in to my side, I get his attention by asking him "what's Mummy Got ? " he know's then he will get a treat, I sympathise with you chantel, but can't really offer much advice here, I also use the leave it command a lot the closer we get. Beau thinks everyone should fuss him, and sadly most will, even thou I try to make it clear they should not encourage him to jump up Grrrr Good luck, someone is bound to come along with better advice x

You could use a yellow ribbon or something similar to attempt to warn people not to give him immediate fuss.

You just have to show Riley that you're much more fun than any distraction. Take treats, his favourite toy along and act like an idiot if you have to to keep his attention lol.

Yeah the best way is to show him you are way more fun than anyone else. Take a toy and play if in a place were you can do this. If on the street then may be you could get him to sit and watch you for a treat instead of focusing on others. Cooper had this thing were he thought everyone sitting on a park bench wanted to say hello to him, so we would be walking passed one and he would just stop dead and stare at the people on the bench waiting for them to speak to him!! I just had to make him follow me instead, usually with a silly excited voice.

Thanks Guys i normaly take training treats whilst out walking and special treats like cheese if i need him to work that little bit harder, some people walk straight past him which i think is good and hoping that Riley realises not everybody wants to make a fuss of him, i do try and get his attention by tempting him away with the treats but like i said its not that easy if he sees another dog, B/T i like the idea of a yellow ribbon and i did think about that but i don't think enough people know about it at the moment, and i don't think it would stop people from making a fuss of Riley unless they knew what it meant.
Like i said i use cheese for extra special treats but Riley as to work extra hard for it.
I was just wandering what treats you guys use ?

The replies above are very good and very useful You could also try getting some friends to walk towards him and if he pulls, turn around and walk a few paces away, then try walking back distracting him with cheese. I he pulls/lunges then turn around and walk a few paces again. Repeat until he walks without lunging forward. With it being people you know you can tell them what to do before hand and not just hope they ignore him Or if its strangers, ask them not to fuss him until he has sat or done another simple command. If he pulls and someone fusses him then he's being reinforced for the pulling. If he sits, then he's being reinforced for the sit. You could also use the clicker and click and reward for each step of nice walking starting with one step, then 2, 3 etc. Treat wise I use Beef Jerky for the ultimate reward. It's salty so I don't use a lot, or if I don't have water but it does down a treat
