Hey all, This is a question about Isis and Rio. Isis has settled in really nicely and i'm really pleased with how they're both getting on. Isis likes Rio's tail and she always walks behind him trying to get it and when she does this a sort of game evolves and they start chasing each other around and they both genuinely seem to enjoy it. It is always Isis that instigates the play, Rio always seems happier to sleep but if she wants to play he will too. The problem is when they end up catching up with each other they both mount each other and start humping away like rabbits until the other one tells them to get off or if I see them break it off. If it's Rio doing the mounting Isis will often roll onto her back and then Rio growls and gets off. Obviously not a sexual thing because Rio is ball-less and Isis is only a baby so I would guess a dominance thing? I'm a bit stuck on what to do because I don't want to stop them playing with each other. Will this all stop when Rio shows he's the dominant one? I always make sure that Isis knows Rio gets his dinner first and any treats Rio always gets them first too but I don't know if there's anything else I can.
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated

So it could just be their way of playing? Weird

It could be! But it could be frustration if the other one didn't want to play, or arousal/excitement if the play/environment gets REALLY exciting. Jasper's a frustration humper, if he thinks you're fighting or if we're hugging/saying bye to family or visitors, he will air hump right next to your legs. It's odd but if we give him something else to do or redirect him, he's fine! However, when Isis comes into season she might start humping Rio (and other dogs), my boss' dog humps other dogs heads when she's in season, again, just arousal. But of a different kind I'd imagine

Rio could simply be getting tired of the 'forced play' by the enthusiastic little Isis.
He could be simply trying to say 'I said enough is enough!!'

Yeah, i swear they must really like each other, they were lying next to each other and licking each others faces. Some sort of weird love-hate relationship

aston No advice really but just to say Cooper will also do the humping thing when playing with other dogs. And as the dogs are all taller than him it's usually their leg that he does it too. I have always put it down to excitement through play like charlottte. And all his play friends are female but not sure whether that has any thing to do with it??
