If you want to copy text, with original formatting, into another thread then here's a method. - Open the thread which contains the post you want & go to that post
- If the post is yours then click on edit button
- Make sure that the edit window is showing the BBCode tab not the Preview tab
- Highlight all the text in that reply window
- Copy the text (in most browsers that's Ctrl & C)
- You can now close that window (if you want or leave till later)
or If the post is someone elses then click on quote and a reply window will open with the post already copied into it
- Make sure that the reply window is showing the BBCode tab not the Preview tab
- Highlight all the text that you want to copy in that reply window,
ignore the [quote .........] and [/quote] text at the beginning & end of the text (this is what makes it a quote) - Copy the text (in most browsers that's Ctrl & C)
- You can now close that window (if you want or leave till later)
- Create the post that you want to put the text in by
either replying to a post (not the Quick Reply option) or by Creating a thread - Make sure that the window is showing the BBCode tab not the Preview tab
- Paste the copied text into the post window
- You can now continue with the post as normal, even editing the original text if required (I would suggest checking everything looks OK by using the Preview tab)
OK tonib I have tried your instructions and seems to work for me. Anyone else want to test to see if they understand and test out on this link go ahead
trying now to link back to a page click heretonib managed to do the link finally but from a dummies point of view ( me ) when I pasted the url in we end up with 2 x http pasted in, what you need to mention is to delete what is in the box before you paste in the link also if we are going to use words like click here, also to delete the word link out of the box first. Does this make sense, and can someone else proof read and try too in case it is just me and my mentality not everyone is computer literate also.. you keep putting a . at the beginning of your instructions, can you use a word, that was a bit confusing again may just be me analysing too much

The same applies for the text box Perhaps I need to phrase that differently - can you suggest something? As to the . in front of the instruction it was just a way of indicating the next step start (in case it's over more than one line). I've used the . instead of a letter when there are different instructions depending on options in the numbered steps. Thought it would make it clearer which steps belonged to which option. Happy to change though

OK so what I did was to click on the cog, there is blue highlited text . I right clicked and copied, then came back and pasted, as you can see the link did not work, therefore the http needs removing before pasting right ? EDIT.... definitely remove the http before pasting into the box

EDIT.... definitely remove the http before pasting into the box Ok scallywag lets work the test from the start, Do steps 1 - 5. Think they seem OK. Then do step 6a this will show what was copied in step 4. Then do Step 6b stage by stage (text copied below) wherever I've typed OK or asked a question - can you confirm that is what happened or what was different. However don't edit what appears in any of the boxes other than as per my steps, even if it seems wrong & doesn't work & I hope I can then see what's going wrong. Use the Insert Link button and a pop-up window will appear The link icon generates at pop up window OK? Is Text Box highlighted - should read Link ? Highlight the text (http://) in the box labelled URL The should now be highlighted OK? Paste the copied url in the Box This should now have overwritten the with the original URL OK? Click in the box labelled Text This should show but not highlighted -OK? Highlight the text (link) & type whatecver words you want to appear as the link name in your post e.g. click here. Or you could just leave it as link This should now show just what you typed OK? Click on Create Link box Create the Reply - regardless of what it looks like & I can see what happened

Nope it didn't over write, it added it to my link therefore giving me 2 x http, but figured it out that we had to clear out the box of ALL text before pasting in my own link.
Maybe someone else needs to give it a go, someone who doesn't have clue from the start then your instructions will be followed blindly if that makes sense ? To add to that I was doing it blindly as did not know how to link two posts x

Ok you've copied the url of the post you want to link to, you've gone to the new post. Clicked on the post link icon & the pop-up box has appeared. You highlight the text http:// in the URL box in (my case those characters are now covered in blue highlight) Did the characters get highlighted?

Thank you BorderTerrier for the vote of confidence. I think it's just a case of how it's worded and if it can be mis-interpreted or isn't clear to everyone then I need to try & make it better.

New Day New Brain LOL here goes.... link CLICK HEREtonib once I get to the pasting of the link, this is where I can't do what you say, if I highlight the http, then right click to paste in my link the highlight disappears ! paste in my link, and end up as previously said 2 x http therefore doesn't work, but if I remove the http before pasting in my link then it works What am / or how am I reading the instructions wrong ?
