lotsofcats, I'm getting a gardener to do the weeding etc. if I can find one (that knows what's a weed & what isn't!) but I can mow the lawns. Last year my neighbour did the the mowing, he started when I had my hand op. & continued for the rest of the year but my knees are beginning to feel their age & weeding among & under the shrubs/trees isn't my favourite pastime, & this year the weeds have really have taken over. In fact everything has grown. I've had gorgeous displays from the roses in particular. The wind & rain of the last few weeks has spoilt that a bit but there's still time for more Luckily no hedges & I've have a good specialist tree company in for a day to deal with the trees, usually about every 2 years.

It’s been getting hot here. Poor Mikila is stuck in her big fur coat, I can’t imagine how it must feel. She spends a lot of time stretched on the floor and since it’s too hot for cuddles Avi lays down a few inches away just to be close to her

I know that feeling regarding the knees tonib, I have such a problem with my right knee that I try to avoid steps as it's very painful to go up steps and even going up the stairs I sometimes have to just use my left leg to step up. My hips hurt when I bend over doing any gardening. They also hurt when I go uphill so I have to plan the dog walks for the least painful route - a bit hard when I live in a very hilly area! My neighbour has the problem of having a gardener who doesn't actually know a weed from a flowering plant. He does her lawns, hedges and any digging needed. He strimmed through the bottom of her clematis last week! Everything has grown really well this year. Glad that you've had lovely roses - I have too. I was disappointed though that 6 rose bushes I bought from Thompson & Morgan all died.

Does Mikila have a summer coat? 4 of my longhaired cats have their summer coat which is a bit thinner, but poor Bramble stays really fluffy all the time.

She does get a thinner summer coat, it’s still pretty thick though. I think because she has darker fur she absorbs a lot of the heat as well

It's quite a nice warm day at the moment but there is rain forecast for this evening and tomorrow. The gardens need it, especially my row of sun flowers - they are well over 8 feet tall and the flowers are just opening.

I thought I'd mow the lawn today as it was a hot day & that would dry it. I planned on leaving it until mid/late afternoon a then the back would have the sun all morning & the front (the longest grass) would get it from midday also it would be cooler. I was just sorting something else out before getting bringing in some washing & getting the lawn mower out when I noticed the odd splash of water on the front windows. Yep it was raining. It was slightly wetter out the back & so I grabbed the rain splatter washing, luckily not much, from a very humid garden. It didn't last long but bang went the lawn mowing, looking at the forecast Monday is going to be the next best day to get it done before they collect the garden waste bin on Thursday.

Sunday wasn't too bad a day & the lawn seemed relatively dry late afternoon so I decided I'd mow the lawn a day earlier than planned. Took the height down 3 notches for the front lawn (as I raised it last time) & found it was a little damp at that level so did have a number of cases of the grass coming out sideways instead of into the collector but not quite as bad as last time. The front filled the wheelie bin about 2/3rds & the back (which I left at the same height) almost the rest of the bin but was much easier to do as it was shorter.
Good job I did as we had some heavy rain overnight so the grass would have been even wetter to mow as due to its length despite the sunny day it wouldn't have dried out in time. Hopefully I'll have some dry days to mow it at least once (preferably twice) in the next 2 weeks after the wheelie gets emptied on Thursday. If I can keep it at this level it will dry much better & hence be easy to cut.
