I noticed that Mrs.Woman wasn't eating for a day or so, I thought she was going to have her kittens. But today was the third day that she hasn't eaten and I was starting to get worried.
Then I saw that her nose is blocked, both nostrils are covered in dried snot. She won't let me touch her nose to take it off and she can't eat because she can't smell it. She is also drooling a huge amount, she usually only drools the odd time or if she is in the car. I tried to put her in the carrier and let some steam soften it up... no luck she will not go in, it takes at least 2 people at the best of times.
I then tried to confine her in a corner and pick it off with tweezers, again no way, I got a scratch as a warning. It's a nightmare to wrap her in a towel, we tried when she needed antibiotics, dad got swiped at and the antibiotic went everywhere.
Any ideas as to how I can fix it???

Ooh no! don't try picking it off,it really will hurt! Will a dab of vaseline soften it.I don't suppose she will let you near to dab it with warmish water on a bit of cotton wool?

No I tried to drip water on it earlier. If it isn't better by tomorrow I'll beg mam to bring her to the vets. Even though they are on call and 24 hours, realistically we wouldn't be seen tonight. I really want to go to a new vets, the one I did work experience in was amazing compared to it.

Is anything else wrong besides loss of appetite, dribbling & nasal discharge? Any sign of weeping eyes, sneezing? I must admit that I would be concerned about her and would want to see a vet for a couple of reasons:- Those symptoms can be symptoms of cat flu - not saying it is as I'm not an expert Not eating won't be good for her kittens. If I remember another thread you said she'd her her first vaccination but not the 2nd due to being pregnant. Perhaps one of the other members had more experience of ill cats, or work in animal health ( vonnie ?), might have a better idea. Good luck.

Yes she never got the second one, the vet said she should be ok. It was a cat flu she had and by the looks of it still has. She was sneezing a little but not since it got blocked . Charlie sneezes a lot and the vet said it was a sinus infection, gave us medicine and it didn't do much. So sneezing is a common occurrence here. I'm not advertising the vets very well am I ?

Cat flu is infectious so a risk for your other cats, although if their vacs are up to date it shouldn't be an issue. However its not good for kittens This link may be useful www.bluecross.org.uk/1959-2765/cat-flu.html

I think you should take her to the vet especially as she is not eating - that is bad for the kittens. The vet will also be able to tell you when to expect the kittens.

She has an appointment today at 6. I currently have her in the bathroom with vapo rub in a bath of hot water, just to see if it will help.

I won't be able to go but I'll let you know what they say.
Just a little rant; according to my dad I need to sort out my priorities because I'm going to horse riding lessons instead of the vets. Despite the fact that I have been to every other appointment they have had and I was the person who said that she needs to go. They are 'family cats' until something needs to be done, particularly regarding bodily fluids then they are mine and only mine. Also I am solely responsible for taking care of Morandi's skin, despite the fact that he is actually my sisters cat. They say it's practice seeing s I want to do veterinary, but If I wanted to be an accountant I wouldn't get lumped with the family finances. Grr.

Just back from the vets, I didn't go horse riding. We got the vet I like there which was a bonus. He said that she is a cat with many problems . But it looks to be a bacterial infection from the flu. He gave her an injection and antibiotics. The vet nurse on reception was then talking to us. I wish she could be the vet there, she is so helpful and actually explains it to us. She gave us 2 cans of hills food which is very smelly to encourage her to eat. She is currently steaming in her carrier, it is a nightmare to get her into the regular one so I have her in a big fabric one that we used to hold both of the boys in.

Did the vet say what her problems were? Glad to hear he thinks the meds will cure the problem. What did they say about the kittens?
Its fun tying to give a cat a steam inhalation. I remember sitting on the toilet lid in our en-suite with the door shut, the shower on as hot it could be & the shower door open. I don't know about improving the cat's breathing but I certainly had a good sauna!!!
Hope she improves soon & that the Hill's does the job - is it the A/D?

yes it's the a/d . He didnt mention anything about the kittens or had her out any longer than necessary, she was in a foul mood.
She sneezed after the steam and unblocked one nostril so I'll do the same thing tomorrow. She ate a little bit of the food but wouldnt eat it when I mixed it in with her usual food. We asked the vet when we could get her neutered and he said 4 weeks after the kittens. I think thats a bit soon. I know they come into heat after having kittens but she will be kept inside 90% of the time if not more.
He also said her ears look a bit sunburnt. She originally had far mites but her ears are still mostly bald. He said that could turn cancerous so it looks like spf 30 for her.
